Legal Way To Rip Something From A Dvd?

My friend has the Man Show season 1 on DVD, and on disc 3 there's a 15 minute "girls on trampolines" segment that he wants ripped to an AVI, and then get one of those screensavers that play an AVI, so he can have that as his screensaver.

anybody know any legal programs that are free that you can legally rip just a track of a DVD with?

(mods: if this is too touchy of a subjet, please do feel free to ***Locked***)

ummm... power DVD allows you to record a chunk of what you are watching, and convert it to AVI.

    PS:

    Never knew that O_O

Basicly, ANY 3rd party app (which is most) that allows you to view/convert/save a DVD is illegal under the DMCA as DVDs have inherant copy protection, if Power DVD allows you to, then it's legal, as that's a licenced piece of software...

That is, unless the DVD Jon case is ever put to a rest..

I wonder if FRAPS would work... you'd just need about.... 15Gb of space for the uncompressed avi.....

hmm.... shouldnt something like this fall under "fair use" ? if not, then i say the DMCA is the devil.. there are many free utilities to do this. get something to decrypt the vob file then get an encoder like xmpeg or something.

I'd recommend checking doom9.org. It may be of some help.
