Why Are People Afraid Of Dying?

One thing that has been bugging me for a long time is why are people afraid to die when they are a regular Skulk/Light Marine who has not evolved/gotten weapons?
Ive seen two aliens staring at a few mines and saying they cant get through. I tell them "Why dont one of you run through and blow them up so your teammate can get by? They wont do it.
Why do marines in base ask for medpacks? Why not just type kill in console and respawn good as new.
Or, if you see a sqaud of HA rines walking into your hive? Do you attack them in desperation, at least hurting one of them so its easier for your teammates to stop them? Or do you run off, afread of death and let them kill your hive?

Maybe they don't want to wait in the spawn queue...
Maybe they're just cowards...
Personally... FOR THE HIVE MIND! *Leaps and is mowed down by an HA/HMG*
You die. You spawn in. If its an emergency, sure, I'd understand. But when its not, there's no need to harass the comm especially if he's saving res.
Being scared is part of NS, and its great when ur so experienced your not scared any more, thats the sign of a true pro <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
As far as running through mines, that depends. If I'm a Skulk and I'm part of a major offencive with other higher class aliens, I'll hit the mine so they can get through, but if there's just two or thee, other Skulks sitting around, I wont usually run through.
As a Marine, I usually wont throw myself into a suacide mission, and the only time I ever /kill is if I'm stuck and there's no /stuck
-not at strategic location
-skulk/la (if i have shottie or welder, i just thrust it at my nearest buddy)
-not extremely needed by the squad im currently in
- <50 health/ no ammo
and if there isnt a long queue to respawn
but i dont like to xenocide as a skulk cuz i suck at it =P
as for la/lmg i don’t think iv ever asked for a hp when i was close to a spawn and it feels like a slap in the face when the comm drops me heath when i have no gear, it makes me think "wth...what kind of *female dog in heat* boy *european slang for cigarette * do you think i am! if i couldn’t stand the wait to respawn i would tell you to make more ips!"
Turret by turret the marines will be worn down. <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'll run away and scream like a little girl!
I have the bad habit of hiting the voice comm button right when I freak out and run away screaming. It always ends in devour!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
And my team always asks "What the hell was that?" followed by a lot LOL when I tell them.
at times I see that our last hive is under assault by a couple of marines, sometimes your basic run of the mill type or rines, and a Lerk is sitting overhead trying frantically not to be seen, a gorge is bilebombing some resnode, 2 Skulks are biting at eachother, and an Onos is hopping around all over the map but never where he's needed ..
when I see this happen, I shake my head ruefully, and set to the task of trying to take 'em all on by myself.
Usually, I will get one or two down, but we'll lose in the end. Then, I stay a little while to see if the teams change..
If they don't, I change server! If teams change, I'll happily hunt their cowardly @sses
I am not for playing with fecking cowards if I can help it.. don't like quiting though, and absolutely HATE it when suddenly 3 or more members of a team all quit because 'boohoo, they've managed to destroy our 3d hive, now we only have 2, we're doomed!' /insert b1tching , namecalling , verbal abuse and pure llama stuff
If your comm tells you to do something, even if you dont think it'll work, you should try it anyway. He probably knows more about the situation than you do and he understands the risk and he's made the decision to go for it. If you didn't do EXACTLY what the commander asked you to exactly when he asked you to do it then you have no right to blame bad commanding on your loss.
But I still play cautious. No sense in giving away free resources, and I hate stealthily getting near an objective and having to start all over again from start because my 1.04 rambo instinct took over and I got coldcocked from behind, then hear that chuckle as I fade to black ...
As a skulk though, I hardly care. I'll dive on mines if it opens a hole for the rest of my team.
to shorten it up, playing as a dedicated group and having nothing to work with we took down 3 Oni and took back sewer hive (we didnt secure it, no res) after that we rushed AND TOOK DOWN VENT ( we lost in the end but it was fun to see the alien scum squirm!)
Dying is part of the game, but noone enjoys it.
In 1.04 I never hesitated sacrificing myself for what I think was a good reason (distract or weaken marines) or not (low life respawn).
However, in 2.0 I began rethinking this - all too futile attempts may give the marines an unwanted resource advantage.
As a Marine, I know it's cheaper to die - and I have no problem with that.
But I do ask for medpacks in situations like where my sudden death may not be helpful for guarding a structure or attacking with a squad, so at least the Comm knows <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I see this working best, when you tell your team exactly about what you expect.
It's not a bad idea in general, to stay back covering the 'rushers', and when sending marines to a waypoint you expect them to be cautious and not to be killed half the way, so explaining unusual or 'suicide-style' commands may help <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Unless these res are distributed amongst the aliens and are barely noticeable, I'd agree with that <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
IMHO that's what the 3 seconds kill delay is for - to prevent suiciding right before the bite of death...
This could be nasty, if parasited marines would give res to the parasiting skulk on suicide <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
I just find it... fun <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->
