'story maps'

Free tv inside! (lie)
Has anyone considered making an 'story' maps for NS? Most RTS games have some kind of storyline to them. What if the NS team released some offical maps which advanced the 'story' of the game. The dev team could decide that, although the Marine's tried, the aliens have launched attacks on colonies. This could lead to some interesting city and outdoor maps, as well as open the possibility of game variants. Imagine this (These version numbers are arbitray):

NS 1.0: Marines try to halt alien attacks and expansion.(Standard gameplay, space maps)
NS 1.5: Marine's have failed, aliens begin attack civilized worlds. Leads to 'Evacuation' style maps (Marines have finite spawns, aliens unlimited. Must keep aliens from capturing x comman points till city is evaced), city maps.
NS 2.0: Marines have pushed the aliens back to alien solar system. Marines must infiltrate and poison massive hives. (Leads to 100% hive maps, creates new 'Infiltration' game mod: Marines need to reach inner hive and poison core resource node or something. Aliens need to wipe out marine's).

Accompanying these story changes would be gameplay changes as well, such as weapons, models, maybe even new alien species. One of the benefits of being a mod, and being on the internet for distribution, is it allows dynamic and constant evolving gameplay. Stories have been neglected in most RTS, barring Blizzard's. NS could really break ground not only being a RTFPSS, but by having a dynamically created story with constant interaction from the creators.

It's been discussed... I think pretty much everyone (devs included) likes the idea, though there's no time frame or organized effort as of yet. One idea is a tournament of sorts that pits teams of aliens and marines against each other on multiple maps, with territory being won and lost as the tournament progresses.

Well, I've got a story planned to span 3 maps... But by no means what you're describing here.

It'd be really cool to have campaigns like this, but it'd have to come into play a ways down the road.
