as seen on halflife2.net forums.
As started on the HL2.net forums:

QUOTE

REDMOND, Wash. — August 10, 2003 — Microsoft Corp. today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the intellectual property and technology assets of Valve Software, video game developer, best known for Half Life and Counter-Strike.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Valve's technology will help secure customers by providing additional titles for the Xbox console system introduced in the Fall of 2001.
"This is a strategic, competitive decision," said Alan Bowman, Regional Director, Xbox. "But most importantly, it is a great opportunity for customers. Everything tells us that people love Xbox; they think it is a fantastic product and they absolutely love the games."
Mirroring the purchase of Bungie in early 2001, Microsoft hopes to attract additional customers for the highly anticipated sequel to Half Life originally scheduled to be released for PC's this Fall. This new chapter, will feature the main protagonist of the original title, Gordon Freeman, along with a much improved game engine. Valve has been in development for almost five years.
So, what's the worst that could happen? Write your own spoof. I got my idea from this post over at TTLG about Thief 3.

Here's mine, although I hate to win my little contest before it even starts. I have come up with the ultimate worst thing that could happen to Half-Life 2. Nobody else should even bother to post, as you won't beat the amount of terror this instills.
10 Bonus points to everybody who understands why this is so unanimously the worst thing that could ever happen to Half-Life 2.

/me rocks back and forth holding a copy of Daikatana mouthing the word "Romero".
which would you rather:
A: Mircosoft take over the the world, upgrade it to the "long overdue" EarthXP Profesional w/ sevice pack 1.1.1.0 (build 2856) promtly crash is causing the death of millions of innocent humans and the extiction of several species of primates
or
B: Microsoft take over Valve as stated in the above article causing the games market to crash, causing the death of millions of depressed human beings and (in a very unlikely, but still possible scenario) the extinction of several species of primates
choose wisely my young padawan. Either way, the fate of millions depends on you
/me chokes on banana he aye 5 minutes ago
zee goggles!!!
/me manically smacks Bill with Xbox...
Xbox you make baby jeebus cry O_O
honestly, my comp is balls.. i'd probably get Halo 2 before HL2 and play hl2 at my friend's house =\
The problem's not so much the console, it's the way game developers dumb down games for consoles. Console gamers, well a good part of them at least, don't want long games with intricate plots, they don't buy them, so the developers make arcade-y console games, minimal plot, minimal gameplay and not at all original. There are a lot of exceptions to this sweeping generalisation, but it's impossible to ignore that they're doing this.

Its not what he's smoking that should worry you.
Its the fact he has a copy of Daikatana that he hasn't burned yet.
BAN BAN!
i still firmly beleave that computers are the only true form of gaming. why should i spend $200 on a consule and about $50 dollars for for each of the 5 good games each consule has.

Because some of those games are some of the best games of all time.
Gamecube only has one.
PS2 has 4.
Xbox has 6
But Xbox easily beats them, even it only had one. Because one of them stands tall above the others.
Halo.
I'm still playing this, and its been 6 months for me, beaten it at least 20 times on all diffulculty levels.
And why does everyone hate Daikatana??
[Possible Spoilers for anyone who hasn't completed the first level of Halo - all two of you]
The only good part was after you crash landed on Halo, and you has to hide from the Banshees in trees and bushes, some nice music starts playing and it feels pretty cool.
Apart from that I regret buying it.

Wow. Someone who doesn't enjoy HALO? What do you do in your spare time - kick children? Or spraypainting stray cats flamingly pink?
I'm still working on legendary. I've had the game since December of 2001 and I still can't beat that stupid Assault on the Control Room. Pity me.
I'm sure Gearboxes PC version will be great, but as of now I hate Halo.

In my spare time I play this silly little game called Natural Selection.
Its maps are great, and it certainly never gets repetitive, unlike a certain ring related X-Box game one could mention.

ok stop scaring me.
[vomit]
ahh. now i feel better. anyway, the other guy asked WHY BUY THE CONSOLE AND THEN THE 5 GAMES IT HAS!?!?
well... it's got more'n five games, but it's true the PC has infinitely more. it's just that... some of the xbox games are just really, really fun
and i guess.. sometimes you just do fun stuff like that just 'cause it's so fun.
That is my input to this discussion.

and.. i dont liked halo too...they castrated this wonderfull game they promised us.. not even 30% of the features they have showed on the mac expo and other very very old wip videos are in the current game..
bw... i think i have one of the oldest halo videos aviable here.. it shows the very first version of the halo engine.. it was intended first as 3rd person strategy game like generals (it wasnt called halo at this time...there was not even a concept how the engine will be used...) many years before the c&c doods started the work on generals...
