A Quick Marine Newbie Guide

For noobs on the go...
I hear lots of complaints about newbies on servers as of late, and though I am new as well (a month or so) I adjusted since I read the manuals. Most people don't. So here is a very quick guide of the basics for people who want to play but don't want to read. It'll keep you from being totally useless to your team while you learn hands on. Here's the Marine side.

Commanders do EVERYTHING

If you keep asking about the other guns, where to get them, and how to get the heavy armor then there is your answer. Commander sits in that little console in the starting base and dispenses everything for us. Don't bother playing Commander until you've play some BTW. And don't bug him for weapons, it's annoying and won't get you anything. But he WILL need you to activate stuff he sets down. Any structure that is set down needs to be activated by marines on foot, this means you. So if you see something appear like that, go over to it, hold down the <use> key next to it and do that until it activates. Other than that and actually fighting, that's all you can do. Commander gives you everything else.

Don't be a Lone Wolf

This not only gets you killed real quick but doesn't do anything. If you are on the move make sure at least one other marine is with you. Aliens will win nearly hands down one-on-one in the early game. So stick with and follow people who look to move with purpose. Chance are they know where to go and they'll need the extra gun to help out.

Get ammo yourself at armouries

Don't ask for ammo at a base. If there is an armoury then hold the <use> key on it to get more ammo for your current gun. Commanders can resupply, but that costs resources. Unless you are in an offense party into Alien turf, get the ammo yourself.

Know resource nodes

See a spout spewing white gas? That's a resource node, it gives the Commander resources for more structures, upgraded weapons, etc. Tripod structures are built on them to gather the resources (or rez) so if you find one undefended call it out. Because these are drastically more vital to you than the Aliens.

Do as you're told

If people tell you to do something, then do it. More often than not these people played a while, and know where help is needed. If you don't know what to do follow orders like a good marine. It literally can be a matter of winning or losing. And it'll help people around you happy while you learn the ropes.

    Oh and another thing.

    Don't turret spam

Don't slap down turrets at every single junction you can possibly find. This massive amount of turrets not only lags everyone but is very annoying and stupid. Slap some down at resource areas and the outlying areas of base or a couple of siege when assaulting but don't leave 80 or them sitting around guarding every single 90 degree turn in the level.

that is right! too many turrets can kill aliens, but then there an onos is coming, too....
this one destroys the turret factory, or all turrets!
PS: no problem for onos with regeneration!!!
