Strategies For Marines

To lessen the need for a patch
Every time I have mentioned (or whined :) ) that NS 2.0 is unbalanced, I've been told either to wait and let strategies develop or to SUYF. So if you happen to have an effective stategy for marines, please, share it with us. Maybe if we'd really start inventing and experimenting new approaches, we wouldn't need a patch so badly. For example, in 1.04 building a TF in base was a huge mistake. Is it still so bad in 2.0? JP HMG is no longer good for taking out hives, but maybe it could still be used to destroy alien res chambers or to counter onos.

I know that marines require teamwork and a good commander, so don't bother posting those :p .

-TF at base is almost compulsory in 2.0

It went from "OMG TF AT BASE NOOB COMM EJECT !" to "OMG NO TF AT BASE NOOB COMM EJECT !" , simple as that

-JP shotgun is the perfect outfit for the more experienced marines in your team , while decent players can have the classic HA HMG (and noobs are muted so that you don't hear them whining for stuff)

JPs can set up a siege on vents and hard to reach places. With a shotgun they can defend it with ease. Best used in the late game when most aliens are onos or gorges.

on big maps sometimes a relocation to a hive is the best way...risky..but if u pull it off it puts you on par with the alien expansion...at least for a while

Most of the marines need to leave the base early to scout, prevent the aliens from taking resource nodes and hives and to kill the gorges. The alien team can expand very quickly because of the muliple gorge option in 2.0, so the marines need to be out there countering them.

Of course some of the marines need to stay in the base to defend against rushes and to build structures.

My fav strategy with GOOD players is to get your base set up nicly with some turrents and seal off anything that can be sealed and take resource point and defend it... dont just set up a res point that some lone skulk could take out if your away. You take one you secure it, If you do this you can slowly build up resources and that leads to my Fav squad of 2 Heavy armors with Hmg and one Jp with shotgun I find this a deadly combo because the JP guy can smack the crap out skulks as they usally go for the Heavy Armor while the big guys waste onos's (dont see as much fades anymore) and slowly make your way to the enemies hive where you could be boring and seige them (yawn great a gun that shoots through walls ooh wee!!! or you could have some fun and get a few GL in there and take it out the old fashioned way.

Please dont belive I hate seige or think they are cheap I just find them a boring way of taking out stuff its just a little dull to build a TF on the other side of a wall from a hive and defend it while it blows the crap outta a hive and the all the aliens defense's are useless. Now if there was say some sort of alien chamber that stopped seige and did nothing else and you needed to take that out first I think that would be cool.

You know like a squad rush's in blows up the iunno lets just call it Anti-Seige Chamber and then gets the hell out while the comm starts to level the place with seige I think that would be intresting but its fine as it is.
