Where To Play Besides Pubs?

Pubs getting old :\
I have a problem -- from everything I hear and see, NS seems to be far more fun when played in a clan-like environment. I'm not new to FPSes, but I am pretty new to NS (started playing when 2.0 came out). I don't think I'm good enough at NS yet to join a clan (espcially as kharaa), but I'm also getting tired of the crappy games with idiot commanders and teammates in the public servers (one that comes to mind was a game yesterday when I kept asking for jp\shotty and the com kept dropping me ha\hmg). Are there any pickup games or clans made for that sort of limbo between n00bness and clan-worthiness? Thanks.

Well, that's your first problem. Were JPs even researched?
Make suggestions, not demands.
Be thankful the commander gave you anything.
I comamnd quite often, and I know that the most irritating thing a marine can do is sit at base and continually ask for weapons. Most commanders have a plan, and even if they don't tell you what that plan is, you should always go along with it. By all means give suggestions to the commander (like "Jetpacks would be useful to take out refinery hive"), but don't sit at base demanding stuff. Make the most of what you're given, and hopefully you'll win
I'll also take this opportunity to pimp my favourite server: Roobs *No Time For Muppets*. A lot of the regulars are very good team players, and there are a lot of good games, especially on the marines.
Jmmsbnd007: Thank you for treating me like an idiot. Yes, they were researched.
MrPink: Wow, I would love to be under your command. I mean, someone who is so ub3rl337 that they reply to a thread from someone asking a simple question with a half-flame\flamebait has to be the best NS player in the world, right?
davidsansome: I agree. I didn't really make it clear what was going on that game, because the post really wasn't about that game, it was just the first incident that popped into my head. I wasn't sitting in the base asking for it, save for the couple seconds that it took for me to get over the frustration from being ignored repeatedly (he also built me into a corner that game, and ignored my requests to recycle a single turret so I could get out, since I couldn't move because I took the HA that he gave me :\). Anyway, thanks for the server ref; I'll check it out next game I play.
Q. What are the rules here?
A. The entire Tactical Gamer membership community follows a basic set of rules that re-enforce mature, respectful, patient, adult gameplay. As long as a player can follow these basic guidelines they are welcome into the community.
If the above sounds like what you're looking for and you've have never heard of Tactical Gamer, you're in for a treat.

Like the FAQ says, we're a community, NOT A CLAN.... COMMUNITY... aka a bunch of people who enjoy playing games (not just Natural Selection, and not just Half-Life mods, and not just first-person shooters) without idiots involved.
We've just gone P2P, but our public Natural Selection server is undergoing final preparations now. Do yourself a favor and come check out our Natural Selection Forums. We have one for General Discussion, one for our Natural Selection Intra-House League, and one for tactical discussions/debates of the Natural Selection game itself. Once you're there, send a Private Message to Wyzcrak and let me know you've stopped by.
If you're searching for an environment without idiots, a server you can always count on for fun games, and maybe even a community of gamers that you can call your own, your search is over.

However, I'm not as much of a nub, so I might check that out, especially since I'm looking for a good marine game
Free SunnyD -> You get MonsE, and most of the players seem pretty good. New server, though, so no "regulars" yet, and no good rhythm as far as administration, game style, etc... Can be a good thing, too, depending on how you look at it. Fun, though, lotsa fun, and a place you're likely to see a lot of forum people. Average skill/cooperation will probably end up fairly high.
SNM's Nightmare -> Hi Jmmsbond007. ;-) It's a good place, most of the SNM players are solid, with several good comms in the bunch. You see a lot more marine wins than on most servers here, probably because the 'rines often end up somewhat stacked skill wise, however, games are still fairly even most of the time. The biggest problem is that most games seem to end with one team either F4ing or quitting out, which is very annoying. That and a few "regulars" who are more than a little annoying when they don't see SNM's around.
Servers I played pre-2.0:
Nano-Gridlock -> My favorite server EVER, and home to, like, lots of great players. Teamwork level was extraordinarily high. Been down recently, they're working on putting up a new one I THINK.
Roob's -> Fun fun fun. Most regulars are solid, like people say, and it's actually not an evil, anti-nub server (contrary to what it's name might seem to imply). However, it's also not the best place to go if you're new... When you're a bit better, it's a nice place to learn.
Jigglypuff -> Not so good now, apparently, but it used to be a place you'd occasionally find folks like pandas and ReD, and had a fair average skill. However, the most enjoyable part was that many regulars liked to do weird things, such as sneak relocations into the alien hive, or do shotgun rushes (which were not so good in 1.0x). Server seems slower now, with a lower average skill.
A few other servers I've never been a regular on, but are lookin' good:
DigitalNines.com -> This bunch of servers is adminned by a bunch of good clans, including the Panda Brigade. I have ping issues to most of them, so I'm not around much, but what I've seen is nummy 'nuff. And, after all, since admins need to play to admin, you'll get good clan players there.
IHOP: International House of Pandas -> Rather new server, Panda Brigade's... Try it out, panda's a very very good clan, and, plus, Churro's the man times two. Not had much play time there, though, so not sure of the average players' skill/teamwork orientation, but it's definitely worth a try (would newbies even choose to stay on against the likes of the mighty panda brigade?)
Lots of other great servers I missed, but these are ones I either have more personal experience with, or are coolio times ten. I'd also strongly suggest pick-up games (look in the "pick-up games" forum for details) as a choice. Pugs are fun, and a good way to get solid teamwork games going.
It used to be in Oxford until Roobubba graduated last month
Now it's being hosted by Warservers somewhere else...
I often win, maybe you should use the voice communication........
That makes me crazy!!!
Each server, new and other modified things!!!
Play standart ns!!!
Or once day you will ask your self: Why can't I do Xenocide with the FADE on this server?!?!.......
Or: Why can't I fly with the onos here!?!?!.......
I hope you understand what I mean.........
Nope.

QUOTE

Erm... Every day I play on 5 different servers!!!

The good of this is you get exposure to a diversity of strats... I occasionally observe Aussie servers (though lag keeps me from playing). The bad of this is you have no way of relying on people who know each other, and thus play better together.
What I mean is that you do not know ns without any mods when you always play on those modified ns servers! An example: Lerk-Lift! With this extra mod you can fly with the gorge around as lerk, when the gorge is pressing his USE key in front of you!!! .........
Rangs it now in your tiny head?!?! *g*
