Ns Vs. Dod

<div class="IPBDescription">cpu usage</div> I really, really like NS. My computer, on the other hand, hates it. I run it in 400 * 300, with every single frickin thing disabled. I'm thinking of downloading DoD, but because of my dail up connection, its gonna take me 16 and a half hours. How much CPU usage does DoD require, vs say TFC or NS?

Anyway if you want them, here are my system specs:

Windows 2000 Professional
Intel Pentium III ~590Mhz
DirectX 9.0b
Ati Rage Mobility M1 8.0mb
Yamaha DS-XG
128MB RAM

As for a rough estimation of what my CPU can handle, it can handle a 5 player StarCraft game, but definately not 8.

    there is something wrong. Are you shure you dont have software mode activated? on your computer NS should run fine

    Yeah if your vid card supports it, go to options > video, select OpenGL, NS doesn't run in software mode well, for example the marine crosshair is just a 1 pixel dot or so I've heard.

    I'm running on a 550 mhz PIII 512 meg ram GeForce2. I can run it in 1024x768 without losing much frame rate. Somethings wrong.

    I have an 8mb card on my old laptop and NS ran terrible, however as soon as i used proper drivers as i was running the standard Windows WDM drivers the game worked perfectly. Sometimes its not the card or the machine, just the drivers that are powering it.

    If I were you I'd upgrade to the latest graphics drivers from the ATI website before you download DoD

    As for which requires more CPU Usage, I may be wrong but i think NS uses a hell of a lot more CPU than DoD, but thats just my opinion, i may be wrong. Better off asking some1 clever <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    When was the last damn time you defragged? I remember, back on my other PC, I hadn't defragged for 3 years. Well, at the time, my fps was 20. I defragged. It was at 50 after that.

    I run DoD at a constant 30 FPS, and NS at 40... I have a 1.1 GHz with 256 MB RAM, stupid isn't it?

    the same with me, but then i got a 1.4 chip, and suddenly all mods run at about 60 FPS.

    Back to the issue, i generally get better FPS and performance on NS than i do with DOD. I can't remember the map (because i hardly play 1.0), but there's one point on this one map where i get 1 fps constant. On DOD.

    It's a courtyard place, with a flag in the middle, a few second story windows overlooking it. In the courtyard, i get 1fps. When i make it to the other side and go thru a door, it literally SHOOTS straight back up to 60fps. very, very strange.

    probbably because your vid card hates the courtyard and loves the building
    seriously check your fps when looking at people and open areas, then check it with your face against a wall .. see the difference? less polys = better performance,
    speaking of which (caiman) you could try to download some low poly models if you wanna give your vid card a break ...

    if NS runs slower now that half to cpu usage is in this, i dont reccomend downloading DoD, ive had it for awhile now and i had to get rid of rain, snow, and smoke on charlie becuase it lagged so orribly on my comp, in NS and other mods my lag is about 50 and i get clear non lag, in dod its around 200 and whenever theres a huge firefight i use my grenades instead becuase i know for a fact i wont hit **** i will just end up a corpse waiting for the 10 second spawning que <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
