Use duck + number key to assign a squad.

Yeah, i quite like it. Though on pubs squads don't last very long, it's an easy way to organize large attacks or just put your people in groups with different objectives (ie. squad 1 kills, squad 2 caps res).

I've been in one but its vastly underused by the majority.

In my experience players tend to form ad hoc teams, moreso if there's an experience "sarge" telling them "you 3, follow me" if they're all going to the same objective.

I've only tried commanding once. My squads went to hell. At first I reassigned squad one several times (to incorporate new players, etc.), and everything just went south from there. There were marines running around everywhere. Some of them probably joined when i wasn't looking and just ran off, others I probably accidentally lost when assigning a new squad. So people were running around because of a lack of orders, people who had orders were leaving or running around like crazy people because they didn't get support. I shiould've just been throwing groups around, like Mastodon suggested. Or perhaps using the l key to select all the marines.

I use squads when I comm. At the start of the game, I select everyone to build the basic structures, while their doing this I put them into groups. I use quarters, (say theres 20 marines, i'll make 4 groups of 5) and put new comers in the original groups. If like theres only one or two new commers, I'll add them to their respective squads (like 1st newcomer joins squad one, second number 2, so on and so forth until I start at one again.) It makes it really easy to cap nodes when ur working at about 3 or 4 times the pace, plus makes orginizing attacks easier. A feature I like about this is that I get less Rambos, which I frankley dont care about anyway, cause I can order like 3 or 4 rines at a time instead of having to drag that box around them.

    One thing I like:

Marine1: Hey commander use squads (while running around in circles meaning you cant get him without selecting the whole marine team.

Correct me if I am wrong but when a marine dies they are removed from the squad? I'd prefer if it was more permanent.

The button that selects marines is great... but i want to have more squads and i dont like to bunch up my marines in order to order a squad.... so, i wish there was a way i could click on the button and every time you clicked on it would be 100% marines 50% marines 25% marines then back to 100% so i can select more then 1 squad easily.

Do yourself a favor -- put the observatory in a hotgroup. Makes it tons simpler to ping for your troops in the field when you don't have to scroll all around your map trying to click on the stupid obs <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I've gotten lazy recently... Used to use 2-3 squads of 'rines moving about the map... Now I use 3 squads of obs, and at most 2 squads of marines (often just one gotten by select all). It's still surprisingly effective, as my "hunter" marines early on are normally the experienced players I don't need to babysit. But, yeah, squads are cool.

Is there a way you can select a building without having to reset an entire squad? like how do you ADD a member to a squad?

I do believe you select them with duck pressed. However, given the fact that I always miss when selecting marines, I've never gotten this to work.
