tired of players quitting?
this is something that bothered me a lot in the older version of the game, and its reared its ugly head yet again.

the great escape.

that's right. the magic F4 button.

i swear, where's the fighting spirit?! today, i "played" through six games on 2 maps on the same server in a matter of under an hour. whenever things got bad for one side, they would quit. F4 and before you knew it, it was 10 vs 6 and the game was over. over and over it happened, and not a single game got past the 15 minute mark.

crys of "aliens are overpowered" "this is impossible" and "screw you" all accompanied the team abandonment. but heres what bothered me the most. the first 5 games, it was the marines quitting. they would just give up, saying its impossible to win (keep in mind, this was about 10 minutes in. victory is impossible when aliens have 2 hives?). but the 6th game, the marines were a team of guys tired of this quitting nonsense. we banded together and showed them that marines CAN and WILL win. sure enough, almost 15 minutes later and the aliens had quit.

...

...

what?!

im sure you've all experience what this game is ALL about. i know i have. two games, one on origin the other on nothing(i think), stand out in my mind. running times of 80:13 and 96:17. in the first, aliens won after losing two hives to marine control. in the second, the marines won after the aliens had all hives and we'd gone through two commanders who'd given up. after 45 minutes, we got a dedicated commander and we drove, inch by friggen inch, all the way into each alien hive. onward to a victory that was impossible.

in both cases, we were at our ropes end. stuck in the same place the game started. but we faught on.

slowly, methodically, we took the victory we wanted so badly.

the best part? EVERYONE who made it to the end was in a state of euphoria. we had a great time. all i heard and saw was "gfg" "vgg" "GREAT game guys" "wow" "awesome job team/commander" and "that was the best game ive ever played".

no one whined. no one complained. no one said it was unfair or unbalanced or pointless to keep trying.

just a lesson. next time you think its over, remember: if you're not back in the ready room, its not over.

feel free to share similar stories. i know im not the only one that loves this game this much.

    Uber-agreed.
I really hate when people F4 even though we still have a chance.

It's one thing to F4 when you have a chance of winning, but it's another when the game is just a stalemate and going nowhere.

Example: Marines hopelessly build up a hundred turrets. You can't plow through those things, and the IPs are safely squirreled away somewhere that's impossible to get to for aliens. The marines stand no chance at all against aliens with 3 hives, 8 resource nodes, and all upgrades... yet they continue to plop down all this crap with their one res node, preventing the aliens from ever getting to the IPs after an hour of struggle. It's games like that I think it's perfectly okay for everyone to mash "f4" and quit instead of dredging it out with a stupid comm who won't give it up.
