Coputer Problems

I'm running a:

Asus P4t533-c (mobo)
P4 2.4
512 Samsung pc1066 ram
Creative Audigy Platnum (may it forever burn in hell) soundcard
60 gig HD (IBM deskstar gpx 70 or 60 forgot)
Asus Geforce 4 (vid)
Win 2k pro (SP 4)

and for the second time in the last 6 months I got the dreaded "Windows is unable to load your profile because it appears to be corrupt. Contact your system admin" after that windows attempts to create a temp user file and it boots, thats all fine and dandy. BUT it loses most of the old registry keys(values) and requires me to re-install all my apps (or at least re-enter my CD keys)

I only use 1 profile (administrator) and I found that the old profile folder still exists in the "documents and Settings" folder and I also found the reg key that points to the newly created folder and know how to point it back to my OLD folder with all of my apps and cd-keys, but when I edit registry I still get the corrupt message. Any Ideas?

If I cant solve this problem in 48 hours I'm formatting and starting from scratch and once I get everything istalled Im gunna imgae and keep a separate HD for replacement.

THNX

Yep. You'll have to format, most likely. Just make sure you backup all your important data, yes? I lost most of my music a while back and that was a CRUSHING blow. Took me months to find some of that stuff again. (A lot of it was rare.)

Maybe you can call microsoft tech support and they will create you a new account, It takes a while I think but not as long as formatting your HD and then going through the trouble of reintsalling everything.

soudns like a failing harddrive to me, get yourself a decent diagnostic program, not this ms-bundled chkdksk crap.

its not a failing HD. Its definatly a software issue. I've backed up all my crap (including my 4gig SIERRA folder heheheh 5 years of screenshots and mods ) and I'm gunna nuke it soon. This sires of IBM drives was the most stable on the market. not to mention an <8.5 seek time, thats very good for a 60 gig. I've narrowed the curruption down to the WINNT folder under the original Administrator account, but cant find the file that actually caused the crash. I'm gunna start clean on monday... ive been jonezing for NS like you people wouldnt belive. not to mention DOD Colin Mcray 3, Morrowind (which fargen crashes every 15 minutes anyway "blasted audigy platinum, may worms eat its creator for a thousand years") a few other games too, never knew how much time I actually spent gaming until I couldnt anymore
