Shotty Spread Just A Little Too Wide

<div class="IPBDescription">yeah</div> I think the shotty spread is just a little too high. There are a few negative results of this.

First negative results is detrimental to the marines... the shotty is worthless unless you are RIGHT in the fact of your target. When you have jetpacks mobility allows you to get that close without as much danger, but before that the proximity required for a truely effective shotgun shell is quite dangerous.

second is detrimental to the Kharaa. The spread in tight quarters maps basically means a totally newb marine can spin around firing randomly and chances are he'll kill a skulk. getting within 5 feet of a shotty marine as a skulk is instant death.

I think pellet damage should be slightly decreased and the spread should be decreased so that it actually corresponds with the new crosshair. Instead as things are now the diameter of shotty spread is over twice the diameter of the crosshair.

Just use the shotgun as if it were a melee weapon. Reducing the shotgun's spread would remove it's specialty.

indeed. Considering everything but Gorges have to get up close until the last hive is up... I've taken out skulks at mid range though... just takes 2-3 blasts, and they have to be right in the crosshairs.

And even at long range, it at least makes them sweat.

Reducing the shotty spread wouldn't make it any fun! It'd be like a LMG that fires all it's bullets at once.

Shotgunners still do have to fear lerks, but not those idiotic ones that try to fly OVER you while you're shooting at them with a shotgun.

You'll put that lerk down faster than flak cannons put down allied bombers over germany if it doesn't keep it's distance.

Don't you dare to make the SG stronger, those things tear apart the bigger aliens who use melee attacks.

I gotta disagree with you there. The shottie chews through skulks and lerks like nobody's business, at least in my experience. It also blows through OCs quite well. Given it's crazy new ROF, you can easily pop skulks/lerks at significant range.

The shottie is amazingly powerful in the early game. It serves a distinct role and fills it well. It even has a role in the late game, as a solid Ono counter. It is available at the beginning of game, is cheap, and doesn't hurt mobility too much.

Narrowing the cone of fire any further would make it simply overpowered, IMO.

But yes, lerks can attack from affar, and are quite annoying to die to....

Two things I remember about the shottie.

Several months ago I remember hearing that shottie's spread is smaller than the decals show.

More recently I heard the shottie spread is a static size and doesn't change as it travels.
