<div class="IPBDescription">without haveing text take up the screen</div> I run NS in 640 * 480, and i have tried running it in 400 *300, but the text messages take up the entire screen. Is there any way to lower the size of the font?
Also, is there a way to disable translucent effects? Because my computer lags horribly when I join marines and all of the sky blue surrounding the minimap etc etc. Is there away to make it solid, or make it dissappear?

I tink I might be able to help you more then you wanted <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Quickly post up your Sys Specs as well as what video mode you use.
If you are ussing software or D3D switch to OGL, the lag on the sky map sound kinda like one of the problems I had with running in D3D.
If this dosn't fix here are the basic ans for your Qs <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
1) to lower the font size find the file called 400_textscheme.txt in you ns dir
in there you are gona wana lower all of the font sizes...
hmmm, I have never ACTUALY looked at one of these file before <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> some of the font sizes get BIGGER whenm you go from 640*480 to 400*300
odd, well play with those ##s till you get good ones <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (GL)
2) To make Translucent things opaque you would (probably) need a Hook, basicaly one that did the reverse of a wall hack <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
so to make a longs story short, no you can't, sry mate <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
but again, give us your system specs, and try switching video modes <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
130,544 kb RAM
ATI RAGE MOBILITY-M1 AGP - 8.0mb
YAMAHA DS-XG Audio (WDM)
Windows 2000 Professional
Service Pack 3
Intel Pentium 3 ~740MHz
And I use DirectX 9.0b at 640*480
Did I miss anything?
Note: This model of laptop was such a miserable failure (no kidding!), that they never bothered updating any of the video drivers etc. So my comp will never be compatible with OpenGL. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> I have tried OpenGL, it fixes some of the lag, but so many other problems arise that it isn't worth it (comp crashes when i go in water, pistol doesn't fire, etc. etc.)
Well, I am putting my money on D3D beeing junk. (so do you have the free undetectable wall hack of randomness also?)
ok, so first up play with those files I pointed you at and see if that helps the text prob
Ok, if you are willing to risk installing unkown drivers then do a search in google for ATI RAGE MOBILITY-M1 AGP...
infact try this page:

As a warning, this might royally bork your computer, I really apologize if it does. But fixing it will be as simple as booting in to safe mode, unistalling your Vid drivers and then having the other drivers on hand for reinstall
See, every laptop has its own specially modified video card, because the monitor is different. One of the reasons that I will never get 100 fps is that my computer monitor only goes up to 60.
Sorry for the delay; forums were closed.
edit: Direct3D video mode uses DirectX 9.0b right? Right???
more edit: And yeah, I cannot handle turret farms. My ping just SOARS up to 4095, but it usually stays around 1500 - 2000. Wjich amounts to a refresh rate where i can click once and my lmg will shoot 8 bullets at once.
even more edit: I fooled around with the numbers, making most of them smaller, but now some things are bigger, and most are exectly the same.
If anyone knows which number to actually change, that would be great.
ok, I really can't tell you anytihng more aobut the diff text schemes, aside from what the file itself says
what you wana do is open up both 400 and 320
then compare FontSize for each item, if it went down, then lower it a few more points, if it went up, raise it.

Yes, it does. I suggest you download the latest drivers for your videocard (or at least check you have the latest). They can be found on the page Thansal linked to and are safe to install. Also try running in openGL, as it runs from my experience quite a bit faster. The latest drivers should offer openGL support.
[EDIT]
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->These drivers will work on any of these cards: Rage - Pro, LT Pro, XL, XC, Mobility - C, EC, L, M, M1, P
These drivers all have DirectX 8.1 support as well as OpenGL.
