<div class="IPBDescription">for nubs :p</div> After observing the behaviour of some of my less expierenced teammates I have come to the following conclusion:
You nubs need to learn how to tacle corners!
<img src='http://home.planet.nl/~viss3588/1.JPG' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Always stay away from the direction you're heading, aliens have melee weapons so the greater the distance the better.
Also, try turning your head so you can actually see what you're doing?
and now some other random things:
strafe to evade skulks, but strafe as late as possible (it's like evading missiles in flightsims)
walking & strafing & trackingskillz > walking & not strafing
standing still & being a crackshot > walking & strafing
when attacked by a weapon that does splash damage, keep away from walls
crouch if there's a group of rines behind you when you attack, they'll be able to shoot as well
when running away, always check your 6 either by actually looking or just look at the minimap.
your life is not important, nor does the commander have time for you. no health for you, no weapons, nothing. go and do something useful first.
Some strategies result in your death. get over it.
psychology is an important factor. never be afraid! if your defense is weak, attack without mercy and don't wait for them to come to YOU. they'll think you are stronger than you actually are. GLs also scare off aliens because of teh big explosions.
Some artifacts in the game (bugs?) can be used to your advantage. Always check your minimap for "blips" & senschambers show up as messages in your bottomright corner
if something needs to be done, <b>DO IT YOURSELF</b>. don't wander off thinking someone else will do it. They won't. besides, the comm can't do all things at once and needs a soldier with a brain.
for example:
rines are defending ONE side of a room? go and check the other exit.
And now some fairly OBVIOUS THINGS some people don't seem to grasp
Everybody's building? stop building and protect them.
If aliens just disappear there's a senschamber nearby. go find it (shoot at the spots where you think it might be), it wont just go away because you want it to
Saw an alien move nearby and now the MT icon is gone? the alien is waiting for you. Try harassing it with taunts =)
If you hear an alien, there's an alien nearby!! really, I'm not kidding.
If you hear an alien restower, guess what! it's probably cloaked though, so shoot at the nozzle and see what happens.
Ah yes, yet another list of things people should do. Oh well, at least the strafing part is original <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Comments
Since I play for only a few days now, so I guess I can be called a n00b <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->-but there's still something that I saw several times and that I keep seeing -and that particularly frustrates me when I play as the com (don't ask me why):
It's seeing a bunch of marines running like if they were at home (or at least on training trip with false bullets and not at all on hostile battleground) and observe them getting torn apart by a lone alien who takes them by their six'
It's particularly terrifying when you realise that the said alien was nothing else but a skulk and that it took out 2 to 3 guys all by itself out of a squad of 5 'rines...
Well I know that time is money (or ressource you may say) but I think it would costs more valuable time to have to wait to respawn -and you got to take in account that those kills gave rez points to the enemy- than simply moving more carefuly...
Doing so being achieved just by having one or two teamates, preferably the ones at the rear of the squad, by order of movement, closing the march by covering the six' of the people who are ahead. I know it would slow down a little the speed of the squad (because the "rear guard" would avance by facing the direction they come from) but I think its better than covering a mile distance away from the main base and then being slaughtered just because you didn"t see what came from behind and no one else did either.
I don't mean that doing so will prevent attacks from lurking aliens, but you will suppress a great part of the chance of getting hit in the back with a poor possibility to respond to the threat.
And it looks much impressive for an alien (or anything else I think) to see an unit moving with letting poor chance for surprise attack than a bunch of happy walking -soon to be respawned- meat offering their backs to the first cloacked xenomorph coming... They may even reconsider attacking you, thus allowing you to move to that praised waypoint, you never know...
Also, even if you, being the rear guard, are (eventually) attacked, the teamates who are opening the way may just turn back -or come back a little if needed, and offer a much appreciated assisting firepower much sooner than if you start shooting after seeing your health meter sink dramaticaly ("Whoops! Could it be that some drooling alien si testing the strength of the nano-plates between the shoulders of my armor?"), thus offering you better chances of staying alive...
Well, now I say that, but you do whatever you want with it... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
When you enter a room as a group, one person look behind you as you you go in, specifically up at the doorframe. Usually a prime hiding spot.
It is ALWAYS good practice to have someone covering the rear while walking backwards. 99% of attacks will come from blind areas.
BTW, if you come to a T junction, even if you are going straight on, always look down the junction for passing skulks, and if you have time, check the corridor frame. T junctions are notorious for multiway ambushes as well as choke points.
It does work though <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> The only gripe I have with thisis that you become one heck of a shiny Christmas Tree for the Skulks to chew on :\
BTW,there's another way to know wether an RT is cloaked or not,but not spilling....it was mentioned in the changelog
Last I checked, tt's not supposed to... Which would make it an exploit. Don't do it.
However, I'm not 100% sure on this matter... Anyone feel like correcting me?
Do not worry,it isnt an exploit because a person with a mediocre attention span would still see nothing
On the other hand, those extremely aware players can spot the slight opacity on the cloaked models
Helps heaps, and they were intended to be 99% transparent <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> You can't have everything cloaked totally
Oh! theres a problem with the file size!!!! <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
They were intended to be 100% transparent, according to the early descriptions of sensory chambers. And, from my experience, it's not so much the opacity as the funny way the chamber interferes with the flashlight's light (which you can tell since you can see right through it) that reveals it.
Either way, it's lame. Just fire around, like shotties are supposed to be used for, or ask for a scan. TEAMwork, not flashlight work.
