Boring, But Viable?

<div class="IPBDescription">massive farm</div> I played a game a couple of days ago where the marines had well over 60 turrets around hera ms, and two TF's (one of which was above, the other of which was on a green crate). Onos were obviously cut down, and gorges just couldn't bile through the gren spam, even with extensive lerk and onos support. Xeno skulks couldn't take the turrets down as fast as they could weld them; most of the skulks didn't even live long enough to blow up.

So, what I'd like to know is, can this be used as more than an extended endgame? The plan would be IPs, armory, TF, and mass turrets. Send the marines out to a node or two and hold them as long as possible. In the mean time, more turrets at MS. The only teching would be advanced armory and weapons upgrades. After about seven minutes, onos show up and smack down the nodes.

Now the marines sit in MS with their 3 or 4 dozen turrets, and gren spam the doors, welding turrets in their free time. They tech on their one node, and eventually (meaning about an hour later) push outward with full tech and HA. Is this a possiblity?

    but primal screamed gorges with extra speed can bilebomb down everything.
    but as long as aliens are stupid enough only to go onos endgames will stay long.

    They couldn't bilebomb down everything in hera, although I admit that might be a map specific issue. Hera MS with turrets is a deathtrap.

    Let's suppose the marines relocate to a hive and do the exact same thing. What then?

    Turrets are extremely spammable, but I doubt that will last. It's one thing to fortify a location, and another entirely to make it take half an hour to clear. I really hope the latter is removed, probably by placing some cap on turrets in an area. There is no reason to have more than 8 turrets in a room other than a last stand of the lamest kind, so a limit of 10-12 or so would be plenty high enough to allow turrets to be used as intended while not allowing you to coat the floor with them.

    I was bored, so I played around on ns_caged in a LAN.

    After I relocated and turreted up the double node, I couldn't even place equipment in that area. It said:

    'There are too many buildings in this area'

    I was pretty sure I had less than 60 turrets. Only maybe 20 sentries with 5 sieges.

    No this isnt very good because you will PROBABLY end up crashing the server if an alien walks in.

    Hey, servers didn't crash when marines had giant turret farms of 30 sentries and 10 sieges back in 1.04.

    Why should it start now?

    I think they put the limit there just to reduce the amount of lag.

    I agree that a limit is needed, and that this strategy is boring and lame.

    That's why it bothers me that so many of the 2.0 games play out exactly this way. Yay.

    its a possibility, but you wont win unless the aliens are crap tbh.


    i played on hera the other night, it was just me vs 2 aliens, i rushed to cargo and set up base, after about 15 mins i had around 10 turrets and gave my self a shotty. they only had two hives at this point and could penetrate.

    about 10 mins later they had third hive and i had lvl 2 guns and another 10 turrets (total 20).

    eventually another marine came and i got him to build loads more turrets inculding seiges, he had welder + shotty aswell did i, they tried EVERY single strategy they could to get through but cargo is just too well defended by farms.

    we tried HA/gl/hmg rush to get hives but by the time he got 1 hive down and got to another they had the lst 1 built and so it ended with a 2 hour game where neither team could possible win.

    we couldnt kill hives and secure them, and they couldnt do anything to penetrate our base while we defended it, xeno skulks would either die strate away or just excplode and turrets got welded, onos got ripped apart by turrets and shotty, gorges could build near us and got smacked if they tried to bile, lerks umbr'ing onos got stomped with gl/shotty spam.


    basically it'll just end with a no win situation so i just recylced the IPs and we just went to kill ourselves.
