Those good ol' lovable ones...
NOTE (6th August, 2003): I REMOVED THE WEAPON_WEBSPINNER.TXT FROM THE ZIP,
SINCE THAT WEAPON DOESN'T DRAW A CROSSHAIR REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT SAYS IN
THE WEAPON INFO .TXT. Thanks to J D W for notifying me of this!

I'm finding it a bit hard to hit with the new crosshairs, as they block my aim quite a bit.
Dont get me wrong, I think they look GREAT, but I need to be able to hit too. Given
that I've seen others whine about this too, I decided to do something with it. In short
terms: If you install it right, you'll get the old NS 1.04 crosshairs back.

DOWNLOAD IT HERE

What I basically did, was to copy-paste the "crosshair" lines in the old 1.04 weapon info .txts,
into the new weapon info .txts. I'm pretty sure they all work (as I've tested 'em all on my
comp), but since you never know what might happen: Let me know if you find any bugs or
problems.

Remember to back up your original files, and post a reply in this topic (or contact me) if
you encounter any problems with the files

Cut n' paste from the 104crosshairs.txt:

-----NS 1.04 CROSSHAIRS IN NS 2.0 BY FANATIC-----

Released: 05.08.03 (August 5th, 2003)

Contents of ZIP-file:
* weapon_acidrocketgun.txt
* weapon_bilebombgun.txt
* weapon_divinewind.txt
* weapon_grenadegun.txt
* weapon_heavymachinegun.txt
* weapon_machinegun.txt
* weapon_parasite.txt
* weapon_pistol.txt
* weapon_shotgun.txt
* weapon_spikegun.txt
* weapon_spit.txt
* weapon_spore.txt
* weapon_umbra.txt
* 104crosshairs.txt

---

Info:
These files are modified weapon info text files, which will replace you current NS 2.0
crosshairs with the good ol' NS 1.04 crosshairs, when properly installed.

---

Installation guide:
1. Unzip files (Well duh, since you're reading this, you've most likely already done it).
2. Make a backup of your sprites folder (You'll find it in your NS folder).
3. Copy the files you unzipped in step 1, and paste them in the sprites folder, located
in your NS directory (probably NS/sprites/). Press "Yes", or "Ok", or "Whatever" if it
asks you if you want to overwrite the original files.
4. (Extra info) if you only want to replace the crosshairs of certain weapons, you should
only copy the files relevant to these weapons. Example: I only want to replace the LMG
crosshair, therefore I only copy the weapon_machinegun.txt.
5. Play NS. Pwn those pesky aliens/marines.

---

Other stuff:
Many thanks to the NS-team for creating such a GREAT game (the new crosshairs do look GREAT,
it's just that they block your aim too much).

    A rare thing when people put together such comprehensive readmes that can help even the greenest nubblet. Hats off to you for taking the time to do that. It makes the finished product that much sweeter.

    Look fanatic, I don't know why you made this, but I assume most people made a backup of their 1.04 folder.
    Just copy the crosshairs from your 1.04 folder.

    You people should really learn to test your ideas, before you voice them. There's nothing more useless then people reading something that is blatantly wrong. The crosshairs can't be copy-pasted, simply because the old crosshairs were HL's standard crosshairs, and the new ones are NS-specific crosshairs (the new crosshair sprites have new names, whereas the old one is a single file located somewhere inside your HL dir).

    You can, however, copy-paste the weapon info .txts, which should work just fine. But since I don't know whether or not something in the weapon info .txts might have been changed since 1.04 (yes I could've checked, but I found it easier to simply copy over...), I copy-pasted the relevant lines from the old .txts, to the new .txts.

    My main point of making this "pack", was to help other people who don't like the new crosshairs (for whatever reasons they may have), to get the old ones back. Not everyone knows which files they would need to swap to do this(I would even dare to claim that most players don't), and I'm also very sure that many people didn't backup their old 1.04-folders, so your point is moot. Go troll elsewhere, please.

    You are partially right, the acidrocket, bilebomb, and spit allows crosshairs (and new ones are included in 2.0), but the webspinner, does not. I'm not sure why I included it (the clock was 06:00 PM when I made this, and I had been up all night, so I was pretty tired ), but it was probably because I saw that the the old, or the new weapon info .txt had a "crosshair" line in it.

    It doesn't make a difference, though. It won't break your NS, or anything, and it still won't show a crosshair (even though I edited in a crosshairs line).

    Anyway, it shouldn't be included, so I'll remove it and update the topic ASAP. Thanks for notifying me!

    really? lol oops. I played 1.04, but I guess I forgot that they were default. It's coming back to me now... Anyway, is there an NS custom site that would have other crosshairs? I want a really small lmg and pistol crosshair that isn't 1.04. If not, I'll just use the 1.04 ones, they're ok
  • ShinzonShinzon Join Date: 2003-07-25 Member: 18407Members
