All I did was drop 2 IPs and an Armory.
While they were building, I listened for a hive and located it.
That left just enough res for 5 shotguns to hand to each soldier and send them out to the hive.

It worked out pretty well on a 12-player server.
Of course if it doesn't work, you're screwed, but at least it's better than a stalemate. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    its a tactic, if early aliens cant defende themselves in their own hive, they deserve to die.

    First, these games are a bit dull, but are a nice opener since they make ailens too defensive (and buy you time in the next game).

    However... How many threads on shotgun rushes do we need? People knew this strat about an hour after release.

    its being counted when half of all alien players drop one defense chamber and noone goes away.

    it's a strategy and one I might use if winning were that important but it doesnt sound like fun if it were done more than once. It might make the aliens a little more defensive early on though -so perhaps 3 shotguns would be enough so that the rest of your team can grab the double res while the aliens are busy ?

    you are correct.

    Even an lmg rush might work.

    That is why the 2.01a beta where skulks reverted to 1.04 health would have been disastrous without other changes. Shotguns are cheaper and better now, and there was already spawncamping/hive rushing in 1.04.

    a shotty rush doesn't even have to be a rush. I was playing a game on Tanith earlier where the marines had rr and a couple of other res nodes. The aliens had 2 almost 3 hives. So we decided to give everyone a shotty and go in a group, and to everyones surprise, it worked, we went to a node, or a hive, took it down, built it up, rinse, go to next node/hive, and repeat. We only had to do 2 runs of this to take out the aliens.
