Three different views, because life isnt complicated enough. I put in the crappy smooth render because you can see the gun's details a little better that way - though not much. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
It's an acceptable 467 tri's with non-viewable faces deleted. Before I killed all those suckers off, the gun was pushing 780 <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
And the stock is unfinished looking cause, duh, you wont be able to see it anyway! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Maybe I could use animations from a CS model or something <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> It's the proper shape for a lot of them. Although I'm pretty much a n00b at bones and whatnot, so that'd be a struggle for a while.
Which parts exactly? I can always change them <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

The entire thing, to be honest. It could use a little bevelling and so on to round the corners a bit, i know this will increase the polys, but it will make for a far better looking model.
Take the grip for example (i'm no gun-freak so i don't know what each part is called) it's entirely retangular, that would just hurt to hold in your hand.
...Yeah, but it'll be mostly covered up by the hand and out of sight ingame. You wont even notice that it's blocky. I guess I could change it a little...but it doesnt really need to be a smooth, sexy-looking grip <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
And I'll try rounding off some other things. I had a few ideas earlier but I didnt want to implement them because I wanted to see what people thought of the model before I started mucking around with adding hundreds of tri's onto it... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Just out of curiousity, what do you people think is the highest tri count I go to for an NS model? Theoretically I could push 1k, but I dont think we need to lag our computers up with high-poly models in a modified Quake 2 engine, right? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> Plus, I havent modelled for HL in a while, so I forget exactly how high you can go before people start to freak really badly <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Most of the NS weapon models are under 900 or so; most of the player models, between 800 and 1200. I believe the highest polycount in the game is the Hive, with 1300. I would call 1000 a safe ceiling, 1500 a safe high-end ceiling, and over 2000 a bad idea.
For all of you who say you have top of the line computers -- regardless of what you're running, the HL engine *will* choke if you feed it too many polys. Simple fact.

I basically redid the entire top bits...smoothed the stock-nub, altered grip a big to be more pretty and a little thinner...redid the clip-slot-thing, smoothed the foregrip, smoothed the top out, smoothed a few more random things. I probably added about 200 more tri's to it doing this, but once I delete the non-viewable faces, you'll see it drop about 300 tri's. It's at 800ish right now... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
This picture is without deleted faces...I'll delete em later when they need to be deleted.
Two fixes I just made while typing this post but dont want to frikkin make a whole new picture - I got rid of that stupid box sticking out of the clip-slot-thing (where it mates to the trigger guard)...and I lowered the little part in the front that goes over the barrel a smidge because it looked weird with so much space between it and the barrel. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
And another thing - Half-Life is a Quake 1? Holy bagels <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I always thought it was Quake 2 at least <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Glad to see you have an orignal too. Meaning: HMG, LMG, Shotty, and Welder ALL IN ONE! (yeesh)
On the last update: is that flat- or smooth-shaded? if it's flat leave it that way <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I like your model VERY much! It is OK for me, only proper skin, and animation ( some of CS anims are OK ).
At last GOOD lmg...... no strange hand-made-pics, but NICE peace of hard work !
Keep working, i hope u will release it soon! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I will use it for sure ! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I can't wait, can't wait... can't...... but i have to...have to....Arghhh This pain drive me crazy... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
BTW .. Can u make also version without these "bayonets" under barrel ?
Look at -SilentKnight- he's noob!!
Not.....
That's a fine piece of artwork and i'd be honoured (Spelling?) to skin <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
- fat pistol grip
- wide trigger loop
- unwieldy sights. they're relleh fat. guns typically have a pin in front, and two posts of some kind in the back. if you've got a pin in there, i can't see it.. but, oh well.
Maybe not bayonets <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->, but version without "nifty-looking barrel guards" <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I know i know ... i ruin your conception....but it is just a question <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> And u didn't answer.... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
With nifty-looking barrel guards or not i will use it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Once again good job.
I hope skinin' and animatin' won't last forever (few months... weeks...and so on and so forth)....
The only thing I'd "criticise" is that you seem overly concerned about polycount. I'd say that you could aim for 1500 before backface deletion and be fine. Not that this model seems to need much extra detail, as you've done a very good job with it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
