    Oooo nice, ive not got a screenie but ive had a game that was goin well over an hour and a half and in complete stalemate, Aliens had 2 hives and most of the res, Marines had reactor room and Waste handling locked down with at least 10 turrets in each.

    Eventually i left as it was 4am by this time <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    You know what this means dont you ?

    Means that servers are stable and able to play long games, the CPU usage is so low that you can actually play these epic games !

    gg Flay.

    I've seen a server get crashed in a long game though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    It was on some hour and 45 minute game. At no time was their a stalemate just constant intense fighting. We were about to take down their last hive when the server died :|

    Err. no. Please explain to me how this works? We had a 4 hour game on our server (first game, time has decreased since then), but CPU usage of NS is still really high. The length of the game has nothing to do with CPU usage. The (linux) server is stable, yes, but the CPU usage is still quite high.
    At least on our server. This is probably something I should (and will) post in the Server forum, but the CPU usage of NS 2.0 on our AMD 1800 is 50% at the lowest, and quite frequently surpasses 80-90%.

    Anyway, length of games has nothing to do with CPU usage.

    (still, I do agree with the "gg Flay. ", don't get me wrong)

    We had a 2.5-3 hour game on Roob's the other day, and it wasn't even a big stalemate!

    Bast: marines relocated to atmos, but the alien hive was feed so they came under heavy resistance. Atmos was secured with turrets and the marines took main aft with a phase. By this time aliens had 2 hives and an onos or two, but most of the damage was being done to spore spamming lerks with gorge backup. An onos rush on main aft took it down but the marines sieged the lame blocking up feed and shotty rushed the hive, which failed but did serious damage, leaving the hive extremely weakened and with no chambers around to heal it. LMG marines finished off the hive after a few frantic rushes.

    The position was quickly secured and with all the res from the attack, heavies were moved to reclaim MS and to hold both the feedwater res. The game was now fairly even with 5 res apiece and 2 hive aliens.

    After some furious turret spamming, a 5-man heavy squad with 1 HMG, 1 GL and 3 shotties moved to outside refinery and set up a firebase with obs, phase, and turrets. Abundant WOL made movement into the hive difficult so the TF needed to be upgraded (this was about 2 hours into the game.) However, an onos rush of 3 onos decimated the heavy squad and BB gorges with lerk backup took out the phase, leaving 2 heavies with shotguns to hold the area, but they weren't enough as the onos returned in force and wiped out the base.

    From here on, the aliens continued to press their advantage, taking back MS and putting up healing stations outside atmos and in tram tunnel. An onos rush felled atmos as heavies were away from base moving towards engine; by the time they returned the marine team had relocated to feed. 10 minutes later, the aliens had won. One of the best 2.0 games I've played, with skilled players and good teamwork abundant.

    We crashed one last night in a 2.5 hour game. It wasn't exactly a stalemate either (it was, but more of a tidal stalemate). Everytime one side pushed, they'd break through, but then be overextended and get hit back... After a while, we took it to its logical conclusion and the marines began knocking down hives and res towers as fast as the aliens put them back up, resulting in a very hectic game (new phase gate every minute or two!), yet one that seemed to have no end in sight. Until I ended up in an oni stomach and, all of a sudden, everything became quiet. Server had crashed, over 2.5 hours in.

    We had a 3:35 game and the marines were getting ready to heavy rush, but the admin just nuked it and changed the map. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Actually in 1.04 you couldn't expect the server to hold out longer than an hour.
  • ClintClint Join Date: 2003-08-03 Member: 18816Members
    It is so true Sirus. Oh the good old 1.04 days.

    It looks like you had an interesting match, to say the least.

    Actually its 1h 52m, and yes, I've commed a round in 1.04 that lasted 3 hours before the server crashed just as we were about to kill the last hive, the aliens had fades for over an hour and we still won(ish).

    Antthing over 60mins is a waste of my time. Thought 2.0 was to be 20 to 30 min games. guess not!
  • Dick_BlenderDick_Blender Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14966Members, Constellation
    yeah, that one was ridiculous.

    must say, that the games I've played after that have never been much longer than 60 minutes, although most haven't been much shorter.
