but seriously, am i the only one that thinks what valve is doing is smart? i mean, it's gotta be one of the best selling strategies that ever was. think about it:
1. tell gamers a strange release date ("release" in september.... really, what kinda frickin release is that?it's not where NEAR the holidays, and that's the best selling time! sure, a few birthdays here and there but c'mon. the gamers are really excited now)
2. delay it (frick. gamers are furious. stupid flash movies come out. hipe is now much bigger. but who's saying they're not gonna buy the game? ........... that's what i thought)
3. release in the holiday season (gamers are mad but bought the game anyway. why did we make the gamers mad by getting them excited. well, pretty much everyone knows about the game now. plus, now, it's the holiday season. so many ppl are gonna get half life 2 under their christman tree. so fun)
i never expected half life 2 to come out in sept. not because valve always delays stuff, but because it's just stupid. i can see no strategy in releasing that early. if you do, then tell me.
please correct me if i'm wrong.
.... or maybe it IS all just a scheme thought out of by the government. DAMN! WHERES MY TINFOIL HELMET!?
i always assumed this kind of delay was for serious reasons, like the map scripter guy got sick and they didnt get to finish the polished lifelike levels by the deadline.
on the other hand i read somewhere that november 30 (somewhere near this "Holdays 2003" date) is halflife's fifth birthday, a wonderful time to release the sequel.

whats the moral of this post? I don't know.....
but the point is halflife 2 has been in development for 5 years... if they say its coming out sept.. then it probably is going to be released during that month. Now wether or not that the dates mentioned are refearing to the release on steam then retail or retail then steam is another question. Meaning the later release date mentioned may have been for the world wide release on steam or something.
Everything runned by gamespy isn't funny, Fileplanet was ruined by Gamespy i reckon. As for the flash, seen it before, wasn't funny bless them for trying though.

The September release date was when they thought the game would be done and ready for release, and I havn't really seen any official Valve statements saying otherwise. As far as the holiday season goes I believe they planned to release the next version of CS at the end of November.
