New Carapace The New Adv. Hive Sight Of Ns?

Cara = poo?
Well, I guess I wouldn't go so far as to say Carapace is as worthless as Advanced Hive Sight was back in NS 1.04...

But is it really worth it now? For early game, Redemption is your best bet for protecting your investment in a Fade or Onos. But even after early game, Regeneration seems more tempting than Carapace. Let's face it, after a few ticks of Regeneration, you've already healed the same amount of hitpoints that would have been saved with Carapace, right?

Carapace might be ok for Skulks. But just about every game I've been playing, everyone gets Sensory chambers first, with Defense chambers coming second. But by the time your team has two hives and 3 Def and 3 Sense chambers, nobody is really playing Skulk anymore (the class that probably benefits the most from Carapace)... everyone has moved onto Lerk, Fade or Onos... meaning Carapace onces again goes unused.

What do you guys think? I almost never use Carapace anymore, where as before I would use it all the time as Skulk, Lerk or even Fade.

Also, Pharamones kind of sucks too. With fully-upgraded Scent of Fear, you can pretty much see any Marine through walls... so why would you want to just see a trail that is left by them when you can see where their position is exactly?

I like using pheremones when im being a sneaky skulk with silence, as you can watch them go past from above and then drop silently behind them, follow the trail, and you almost always end up behind them for a quick and easy meal. I agree scent of fear is better but not as much fun as you dont get the feeling of sneaking up behind an unsuspecting marine hehe

Carapace is an awsome upgrade for fades and lerks. Lerks are still like tissue paper, even with their increase in health for 2.0. Being a carapaced fade is also awsome, since you have metabolise to heal yourself and blink if you're in a jam. If you require redemption to stay alive as a fade, you need some practice.

I agreed with the milk man. Carapace should be the obvious choice in most cases for fades while having 2+ hives. Although I still find it very hard to stay alive as a fade vs 4+ HA marines with heavy weapons. I think I'm going to try if redemption works next time.

I'm finding that I die very fast any time the marines aren't already owned by teamwork. Once marines are still alive (due to pub alien unable to organize), they kill me fast no matter what. I don't even bother getting any upgrades other than the occasional silence, celerity, or redemption, and maybe regen. Res is so valuable to each alien now, I can't justify blowing 2-4 res on things that really aren't going to have an impact on either how many kills I get or how often I die (because of kills for res).

My favorite 3 hive skulk upgrades (when i have no res for some reason ) would be silence, regen, and scent of fear. Around a sense chamber, thats the most fun ive had with a skulk in a looooong time. They just don't know what hit them.

CARA = good for attack gorges/essential for fades/great for lerks/useful for onos.

Its good, but its not essential anymore, which is a good thing.

HEY! Advanced Hive Sight ROCKED! On any map with dark areas (most of them) you could aim right for the marines! No more hiding in the dark for them! The best was being a lerk. They would pop around the corner thinking they were hidden but they were GLOWING like glowsticks! I miss it...haven't gotten used to the new methods of tracking...

Cara is a JOKE. Celerity is alot more ussfull for all classes (move faster get hit less). I agree, Regen quickly give you more health then cara perserved. The only time I use it is when im Xenoing HA trains and that one extra (seems to be all it adds) hit counts.
Honestly I dont notice a differnce between regen and cara with fade ( i get smacked down like a **** with both). With the onos regen is VASTLY superior to cara. Lerk its a little bit more of a personal taste thing. I personaly feel that v2 lerks belong as far from the actual fighting as they can be while still being able to cast umbra and spores. Peaple who like a little more action might perfer to upgrade there papar skin to cardboard.

    More like Pheromones=poo

Why have an ability that tells you where a marine was, when you can easily grab an ability that allows you to see where a marine is, through a wall, allowing you to get ready for him, or run, never become abushed, and able to hunt him down all in the same ability.. where as pheromones is only good for hunting.. and it's not even that great at it

Agreed. Pheromones are worse than Carapace. With sensory chambers I will definitely go for Scent of Fear, now that it's been heavily pumped up and acts like motion tracking, only better. It saved me many, many times and got me more kills as I knew where the marines were. I had one rine who claimed that I was wallhacking! About Carapace, it's still very good, although I agree that it's been less useful. With Onos I tend to go Redemption. However, I still stick to carapace with other species. Cara = saves life. With any other thing, you won't be saved when a shotgun pumps into you when you're a Fade. I tend to blink/slash/blink/metabolize and Carapace helps A LOT in reducing damage, so Carapace is still pretty good.

You can only compare carapace with other defense upgrades. Arguing that carapace is better or worse than celerity is a moot point

But to get to the point, it *isn't* useless. It's pretty much the perfect upgrade for Fades - you don't need regeneration because of metabolise, and you don't need redemption because of the new Blink (unless you're *really* bad at Fade).

Certainly it's not as useless as advanced hive sight. I'd say pheromones are, though .
