Two Hives At The Same Time

Cool tactic
My friend and I (24AR | Akuma) started to play Kharaa and decided to gorge to develop our skills. While practicing together we developed an AMAZING tactic. Too bad 2.0 won't have overflow...

Ok, one person goes gorge like normal. The skulks can rush the marines or whatever. The gorge goes to an empty hive location and the person who is going to gorge 2nd goes to the other empty hive. This is kind of hard to do with a competent Marine team as they will often try to secure a Hive location. But if they don't, you can have two hives going at the same time and Onos by the time they expect you to have Fades! Exciting! Ok, moving on.

The gorge will do, in this order (you can change this if you want, this is just what I do personally,) Build 2 Resource Towers, then the 2nd person will gorge, put up 1 Resource Tower at the 3rd Hive. The 1st gorge will put up 2 D Chambers, and the 2nd gorge will put up a 3rd D Chamber. Now what I usually do next is put an OC in each of my resource towers (on top of the RT, kind of inside the bubble part. This is what I do for security ) Now, Both gorges should be overflowing with Resources! And the great thing is that they both have a big amount of res. See, if there were only 1 gorge, he would have a lot of res, but the overflow is enough for two gorges. Ok now, you can put up a hive! I like to talk to the 2nd gorge on Ventrilo (Talking Program similar to Roger Wilco) and time the hives at the same time . And then, your whole team is like "Two hives WTH! Good Job gorgy!" And then at this moment you can start taunting the Marines and be like, "j00 marines bettar watchout bCaus teh pwnos is coming to pwn j00!" And then the marines will be like, "Yeah right, in your dreams!"

And then that's when you send a skulk to Xenocide in their base! Then you read a satisfying comment from the marines.

"OMG! WTH, 3 hives already! Oh crap! They're coming get ready guys!" Heh.

Too bad this won't work with 2.0!

Just curious. When you did that strategy, how many people were on the alien team. When there are like 4 aliens, doing your strategy is easy to time and not too difficult to pull off.

When there are 8 aliens, it's a LOT harder. The marines will almost ALWAYS manage to secure one hive or near one hive. Also your res comes in a lot slower.

Actually, there were like 20 people on the server. We tried with like 5 aliens and failed because there weren't any "spare" skulks to guard the gorges. And the resource flow issue, yes, it's a little slower, but only by a few minutes which, I know can be crucial, but it's worth it. The overflow is... meh, good.

You did this with a full server. Interesting.

Were the marine dope's? Or was the commander hopeless?

Also, your strat would probably be put back severely if any gorges died right? So having a guard is important. On ns_eclipse, I always have a gorge guarding me and any time I am saving res, I have him boost me in the vent.

Altho if one of the gorges died a decent chunk of res would go straight to the other gorge therefore nearly guaranteeing a second hive minimum.
This is assuming that the other skulks are full/nearly full.
I've always been a bit of a fan of multiple gorges as it was more fun and alot more ground could be covered.

Although only one hive can be building at a time, having all three hives early in the game is much easier to do.

Firstly, having the multiple gorges will increase your res flow. While the gorge doesn't get his extra share any more, you'll want to have at least two gorges. Doing so, the others can build resource towers and movement chambers, while one saves for the hive.

The point is, of course, that the movement chambers are placed under the hive. With a decent resource income as one should have, given the expanding conducted by a multitude of gorges, many, many movement chambers can be built underneath the second hive of choice. I don't know by how much movement chambers speed up the production of hives, but that's not very important - if it isn't fast enough, you can always build more, until having any more would become impractical (for want of space for defences and such). Then, you have two hives (w00t) and, with the extra strength of your team that the 2nd hive ability, the double-speed spawn, and the extra upgrade provide, you can more than easily take (or simply hold, if they're stupid) the third hive that early in the game. It only gets better from there. Hurrah for that!
