<a href='http://tremulous.net/thumbnail.php?id=97' target='_blank'>"Trying his hand at base construction" my a**...thats a damn IP!!!</a>
That better not be a freakin IP. If it is, I'd get a lawyer, stat. Man...and look at the stinkin maps...a "train tunnel"...can you say "BAST COPY!!!"?! God, I hate people like this. Just play NS. Its better. Even the models are better.
Oh come on... Wall walking. Then you should also sue Aliens vs. Predator. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I have edited that out for my own safety.

Did AvP have a res model, complete with different evolutions and upgrades for the aliens? AvP doesn't even have marines...
NS may have copied some stuff, but not too much...
This is essentially putting NS on the Quake 3 engine. And from their progress so far, it doesn't even look that good.
I mean it's copying NS right down to it's most fundamental aspects of gameplay.
What? Fast paced intense aliens?
What? Teamwork oriented marines?
What? A commander?
This is blatent plagerism.

Okay, from now on I shall take your news articles, delete them, repost them under my name, and I will take one of your periods(.) and switch it with a comma(,). Would you like that?
The only similarity between the ips is that they have a circular base. Their portals have some circles around them, seen <a href='http://tremulous.net/screenshot.php?id=87' target='_blank'>here</a>.

Are these aspects original to NS? May no other mod use them?
I don't see the problem with another mod using NS concepts. They have some original concepts too, if you bothered to look.
No, your not. Take a look at <a href='http://tremulous.net/screenshot.php?id=89' target='_blank'>this</a> picture. Correct me if I'm wrong but that door texture looks exactly like the one used on ns_nancy. And that thing that is getting constructed looks strikingly similar to an IP. This game could be popular since it is working on a slightly more advanced engine.
This is interesting! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Who cares? It's anothe engine. Maybe he really LOVED NS and wanted to make it on his favorite engine.
NS Team doesn't make money, this team doesn't make any money off of it, no harm no foul. When you try to curb the flow of inspiration and imitation you're becomming just as bad as the big RIAA fat cats and all the supporters of the Mickey Mouse protection act.
Get over yourself...
I know one of the modellers for Tremulous, and he's a pretty top notch guy. In any event, the project is almost dead of late because of some people having real life issues, or so that's what I hear. Now excuse me, I'm going to go sue the next door neighbor for copying me, he has brown hair.
ROFL...
It's really nothing to get worked up over folks. But you can't patent or copyright a gameplay concept. Otherwise iD would be suing every single crappy solitary online first person DM shooter ever. Which means nearly all first person shooters <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
If anything, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Don't be like the gloom forums where many people sits around complaining that NS is a rip off of them, even though they are plainly a derivative of other games themselves. It's just tacky and pointless.
Don't make daddy lock...
This topic had been talked about quite a bit a long time ago. Yes, some of the textures are the same, because they were both taken from the same free texture sets. I'm also pretty sure Tremulous has been in development longer than NS...
Yes, PART 2. This is the second time something like this was posted.
The textures are public domain, so you can't sue us for using them (dissapointing isn't it, now you can't sue us :o )
As for the stealing of the NS concept, how can you even make such an accusation before playing the 2 mods? Sure, it's aliens vs hummies. BUT HEY ****! quake2 gloom HAD THAT TOO! (yes really!) Having played both mods I can say that they differ a lot, gameplay wise and the general "feeling." They are even so different, that I don't like NS (no offence) but I do like Tremulous.
And OverFlow is right, The development of Tremulous had started before NS as far as we know.
Really, all this makes me sad. All you can think of is "sue them" when you didn't check for proof.
Stannum; Tremulous dev, eagerly awaiting part 3 of the TREM STOLE TEXTURES SAGA!
EDIT: Forlorn, avp doesn't have marines? WTH?! There are 3 teams. Aliens. Predators.... AND *drum rolls* Colonial marines.
EDIT 2: Part 1 of the TREM STOLE TEXTURES SAGA!

Oh well.
I just don't want it on the Q3 engine, because that means I'll have to upgrade.
darnit.

I cant speak for Timbo regarding Tremulous, but I do know for a fact that developement on Tremulous was started in the spring/summer of 2000., and it's been a one man show pretty much since then. There are such things as Public Texture sets out there, and for a one person Mod team to make use of them should not be surprising to anyone.
I can however, speak for Gloom:
<b>A little history..</b>
Back in late 1996, Dave Wallin(aka Whitenoise), and John Diamond set forth to make a Quake1 Total Conversion that was to be called Alien Quake. Right before the release party in march of 1997, Fox Interactive sent out Cease and Desist letters to Dave and John telling them to immediately stop developement of Alien Quake, and to delete all files pertaining to the TC from their hard drives. This is where the term "<b>Foxxed</b>" originated in the Mod community.
Not wanting to give up on Alien Quake and its eerie feel, Whitenoise decided to change the story. In the Fall of 1998, Whitenoise teamed up with a very talented artist named Rex, and in 4 months time developed a Total Conversion for Quake2 called <a href='http://www.planetquake.com/teamreaction/gloom/index.htm' target='_blank'>Gloom</a>. Gloom was the <b>first</b> Mod to use RTS elements in its gameplay, and was very unique in the type of gameplay that it offered when compared to its peers in the Mod community. The TC/Mod has seen many revisions in its lifetime, and is still being played by a very small and dedicated community.
Q3 Gloom is just an extension of that concept, with the Q3 engine allowing us to push the envelope where graphics and gameplay are concerned. Any posts indicating that Q3 Gloom is copying another Mod or idea is simply wrong, and the individual(s) making such posts are ill informed.
Just thought I'd chime in and clear things up for anyone who might get the wrong idea when threads like these are allowed to go uncorrected. Best wishes to the Natural Selection Dev Team, and to the community that plays it.

Now, may I point your attention to the old MOD that had this issue but is not up to it's seriousness.
<a href='http://www.planethalflife.com/paroxysm' target='_blank'>http://www.planethalflife.com/paroxysm</a>
I think the reason why NS got so popular and other games with the same theme haven't, is the fact that it uses the HL engine. And thanks to CS, HL has become insanely popular. So NS got more attention because HL in general has a WAY bigger fanbase than any other engine.
"but people are also mad that they use the same examples, ie: marines vs. aliens."
They shouldn't be mad. It's pretty straightforward choice to use these teams. 2 different races, that gives more variation than 2 human teams fighting against eachother. Of course you could make 2 alien races. But people want to identify themselves in a game, so humans vs aliens would be a better choice.
And IF they get mad I'll just slap them in the face and say gloom was the first.
-edit.. i posted this before i read all the responses...
