<div class="IPBDescription">Strategies?</div> The server that I usually play on got fed up with the unbalance of 1.04, and made our server a 1.05 server...Everything has changed now, rushes dont work and all that, and alot of times the marines find themselves using seige to take out most everything, rather than constructive strategy...Even when we get about 4 heavies into a hive, intent on killing it, we end up taking quite a bit of time kiling the hive...I actually did manage to do a successful JP shottie rush (if Im on eclipse, and there are VERY few people that's usually the path that I take, since Im the comm and the soldier)...but it was incredibley hard. Anyway, I know roobs and CoFR have it, and I was wondering if any of you have developed uber leet strategies to counter all this hive umbra and other stuff

JP nerf I can understand. Nerf that all you want. Hive umbra in 1.04 I cannot. Vanilla skulks can win the game in an early rush. Vanilla marines with LMGs cannot kill the hive due to umbra. Or it'd take like 10 minutes of spawn camping to do so.
1.05=only way marines can win is with seige. Hellooooooo boring games.
1.05 is an unofficial update adopted by some servers. Changes include the hive auto-releasing umbra when it is attacked, and JPs being toned down lots.
Ps. What's a "constructive" strategy?

Things more complicated than scanning the hive...waiting...scanning again...waiting...etc until it's down...then after that the whole seige outpost would be taken down eventually...another hive would be already up due to the slowness of siege....
It seems like people now want to divide the different ways of killing a hive into categories of good and bad. However, they can't agree. Some think HMG is "lame", others now claim siege is.
If it works, it's good. Who cares how the hive dies as long as it dies.
Besides, there's more to sieging then scanning. You have to get there, build the stuff and defend it. That means you have to move, and shoot aliens, what more can a marine ask for.
Let's just say the crutches Aliens have on those servers aren't gonna be around for long.
Now if we can just take care of those pesky marines hiding when they start to loose... E.G. when the last com cahir falls and there's no way to replace it, but everyone has jetpacks...
Leap Exploit fix
Umbra around skulk when it spawns to prevent spawncamping - not around hive when its attacked
Hive heal +20 per sec rather than +2
Unstuck Pro mod
These are the only changes that quantify ns1.05 and are done to address some of the largest problems with ns1.04
Other mods which people may include are stuff like teh JP nerf, marineblood, chatlocation variables etc, which are all ns2 features but are not necessary for 1.05

Hopefully, we're all in for a bit of a suprise when ns2 is released.
I would not say that the changes above make it easy fro aliens and negate the necessity for them to protect thier hive, jp+hmg rush still works (with blinding efficiency)

Hell, aliens don't even have to WORRY about defending their hives anymore, because the umbra will protect it long enough for the aliens to make it back. Umbra only surrounds spawning skulks and it doesn't include JP nerf!!!oneoneone
think "do i know anything about this topic" and "have I actually played on a 1.05 server?" before i reply to these sorts of topics. 1.05 was created with a view to address some of the faults in ns1.04 before 1.1/2 was released in an effort to extent the enjoyment of people playing the game while they waited for the official update. Dont rubbish something that you:
A: Havent played
B: has been done for the enjoyment of the NS community as a whole.
if you're still haveing fun on ns1.04 then great, i setup a lan 1.03 game the other day and had a whale of a time, but ns1.05 is actually a pretty big improvment on 1.04 and its made the games more interesting and fun to play in recent months
That is almost the best part of the game is you are an alien. With a fully upgraded skulk or a lerk hunting marines is fun!
