Anybody play ns with an LCD flat screen monitor? I've been considering getting one to make more space on my desk but I'm not sure if it's worth it yet. Anybody have success stories with LCD flat screens?

I have a 17" LCD. (well it feels like a 17" - used to have a 17" crt), and it is excellent. However, I can't get above 75fps, what a shame lol <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->, But it looks sexeh and I now have my desk back <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I love everything about LCD's except for the fact that CRTs are better for games, so thus, I use CRT. Sure it weighs a hell of a lot more, but the picture quality is worth it. And the refresh rates and resolution.
I have an 18' TFT monitor, and it is the best thing in the world.
It is true that CRT quality is better, but to be honest, when i play games, i honestly don't notice the difference. All I notice is that the monitor takes up less room, it takes less power (i can even plug my TFT monitor into a UPS without it draining the battery) and i can actually see it in daytime without glare spoiling the view. I'm glad I got TFT, and i'm sticking with it.
Plus the fact it also stopped me getting eyestrain

I've got a samsung syncmaster 760v TFT and I've actually found the richness of its display to be superior to most CRTs. Its a little difficult getting things to show up exactly as they should however even though they look good. Whites have a tendency to bleach out at higher settings of contrast. Whenever we're watching a movie in my dorm though we all go into my room partly because the colors look so good on my screen.
I've found it to be pretty good for gaming. Check it out before you buy it, but I don't notice the fade at all. It doesn't look great when running in significantly less than maximum resolution, since it has to interpolate between the pixels, but near the 1280x1024 max everything looks crips and clear. I would advise though that you should only get one if you have a graphics card capable of running the games you play at high resolution.
The <b>BEST</b> thing about LCDs is the lack of flicker. That significantly cuts down on eyestrain. I can barely stand to look at all but the best CRTs these days. If you use your computer a lot, especially for wordprocessing or programming, you'll thank yourself for getting an LCD.

I think you will always have better quality on CRT, the images will always be sharper, i'm not talking about standard CRT though, im talking about things like Sony Trinitron and high quality monitors like that
I have a 25' CRT Sony Trinitron monitor, and it is much better quality than this TFT monitor, no questions asked

well i'm in no position to argue with you tbh cuz i have my TFT connected via analogue, so i'll wait till i get a Graphics Card with DVI, and i'll reply then <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

If you got the cash go for it
Yes, I bit the bullet and got one and I'm glad I did because it seems like everyone is getting one. I'm finding it very difficult to unload my old CRT off on somebody and its a really great quality 17" Sony Trinitron. At any rate I bought the VX700. Viewsonics rule yo! 550:1 ratio so thats good enough for ns. I still need dvi but its awesome regardless! I'll say it again: I'm glad I made the switch!
Glad you like it Relsan! Welcome to the club of high-tech freaks. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway, a DVI is a <i>must</i> for anyone with an LCD. Only then you unleash the full potential of the beautiful quality and you can laugh at CRT's "poor quality"... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Hey relsan, thats the exact monitor Im picking up tomorrow <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Im glad you like it, I was a little worried too!
from what i have heard, if you want a get a lcd monitor and use it for gaming get one w/a really high response time. something like 20ms and below or you'll really have problems with the "ghosting" effect.
I forgot what DVI stood for but it is for digital output, if your vedio card supports it, the high end LCD will display pure digital bliss... Yum....
I have to admit things did look a tad wierd at first, but when I upped the HL resolution to 1280 by XXX (forgot what it is) things looked way better Remember to disable Vsync and set ' fps_max 100 ' your eyes adjust very quickly to it, all other games look awesome on it.
Well, I got mine, just did a lot of testing on it. Gaming, photoshop, typing, yadda yadda. If I used the scrollwhell fast on something, it blurs a little, but otherwise it was awesome. Gaming was great and the picture is very nice!

I'm also planning on getting an LCD for fall too. How does the gaming look (heard it's tough on games)?
