Saddam's Sons

the media and pictures
Ok, as I'm sure most of you know, both of Saddam's sons were killed in a fierce battle a few days ago. Since then, the various news networks have been constantly showing the pictures of their dead and somewhat disfigured bodies. Now, without getting into the whole Iraq discusion, I was just wondering what people thought of the media posting those pictures? Last time I checked even the major news networks websites had multiple pictures of each body prominantly displayed on their main page. Is this really necessary or in good taste? Do we really need to see their bodies? I was talking about this at college with some of my friends and one made the comment, that they're doing this to prove to the Iraqi people that Saddam's sons really are dead as apparently most did not believe it at first. Do you think this is the case or do you think the media is trying to cash in on the story by trying to be more sensational than the others? Just wanna get your thoughts on this as I have mixed feelings about the pictures being shown.

[edit] sorry, Mr P "Quaunaut" Erfect [/edit]
I believe in peace, but if your gonna go into war, you gotta kill people. I still think we oughta murder some of them over there-they shot at us, then we captured them, and now, WE are paying for THEM to get food? Thats a BS story if I ever heard of one.
-edit- And z.x., its "skeptical", not "sceptical".

That is the humane thing to do. Its the civilized thing to do. We need to understand where the hate is coming from and try to fix the gaps. Just killing is the easy thing to do and it doesnt solve problems it just creates more. We have an obligation to get a gov't on its feet over there and until that is done we have to deal with this mess.
However, it is hypocritical that this US administration does it under these circumstances. It was them who condemned Iraq for showing similar pictures a few months ago.

I keep looking for the smilie. Or anything else saying you we're just having a really bad joke, but I ain't seeing it.
You see, there this thing called the Geneva convention, which last time I checked the USA is still a signatory of. It means, amongst other things, if someone surrenders to you they are treated humanly, you don't murder them.
I am really restraining myself from flaming you like you wouldn't believe, I haven't flamed anyone in my life and i'm not going to start now, but you've really tested me. Go out and buy some humanity will you please ?
[on-topic]I understand it being shown in Iraq, and agree as to the reasons. It being splashed over papers and TV I find a bit gratuitous but not so much i'm gonna write in to anyone and complain about it.

Well....Iraq hasn't surrendered, per se...
And yes, whoring out propaganda for the sole purpose of riling up a defeated people IS 'inherently repugnant'. As a matter of fact, I can think of few things MORE vile. There was simply no need to spread these images around; it just further solidifies the American media's massively non-objective reputation.
After all-what would Amerika be without its image
I personally thought the war was the wrong war, being that it seemed(not totally sure of this) that it seemed that Bush just wanted to finish what his dad started. Which, may I also say, is quite honerable. I just think he should have done it on his own time, don't use the US army.
I just think that if someone stops shooting at us just cause they ran out of ammo, they really should be shot.
It may be cruel, but what do you wanna bet were gonna regret not shooting them later? In fact, we already have-its happened 3 times, each time killing more than just 1 marine.
I don't know. Maybe I'm too cruel or something, but thats how I've been raised. I won't kill someone for punching me or something, but if someone shoots at me, I WILL kill them, if they meant to kill me. Either that, or I'll do something to make them regret it.
I don't think any of that is wrong. If you guys do, thats great, I just think that war is just that-one huge fricken fight, and you gotta watch your back.
I wanna see nude pics of Dr. Germ and Dr. Anthrax!

as for the media, of course they're gonna wanna cash in on the story. it's their job. doesn't mean that it's not proving to the iraqis that the sons are dead.
