What Will The Player Dimmensions Be For Ns 2.0?

WarpZoneWarpZone Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6264Members
<div class="IPBDescription">I wish the damn "search" feature worked</div> First of all, I can't even find the old values in the <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/MappingGuidelines.htm' target='_blank'>v1.04 Mapping Guidelines.</a> But I heard the Onos is going to be bigger in 2.0, so I need to know how much bigger he's going to be so my map will be 2.0 compatible. And if someone could please state, for the record, the player/skulk/etc dimmensions, that would be helpful too. I don't like to have to playtest to find this stuff out.

When you update the Mapping Guidelines for 2.0, please include this important information. Also, <i>please</i> fix the forum search function soon. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I don't know about 2.0, but I can give you the 1.0x values.

    A skulk/gorge/lerk/crouching marine/crouching fade is 32 units wide and 36 units tall.
    A fade/marine/crouching onos is 32 units wide and 72 units tall.
    And an onos is 64 units wide and 108 units tall.

    Remember that a hole has to be at least .00001 units wider than a player or the player can't fit through. If a skulk tries to crawl through a vent exactly 36 units high he won't be able to get in.

    (Almost forgot. Anyone still using Hammer, remember that Hammer drops decimals, so a skulk won't be able to fit through a vent 36.5 units high unless you use Quark)

    just to double check you do know that multi word searches require AND/OR to be placed in between?

    for instance:

    player AND dimension AND 2.0

    that said I couldn't get it to work in a test with that either..... oh well, I guess ask NerdIII

    off the thread a little:- for whatever reason the actual 'search' page seems screwed but the search box at the bottom of a forum seems ok.

    Ahhhhhhh. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    So, any word yet on the 2.0 player metrics? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Anybody?

    The strange thing is I do not seem to have this search 'box' everyone talks about but the search page (link at the top) works ok for me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Exactly the same as in 1.04 as far as I know. The appearance of the Onos might have been modified to make it fit it's hull better, but it's hull is still the same size as it ever was.

    If they were going to change it they probably would have already let us mappers know so that customs maps could be updated for 2.0 releases.

    I thought the onos is bigger and thats why ns_nancy isn't included in v2.0 because of the problems with the new onos model/hull?
  • ShadowicsShadowics Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7652Members
    Without looking in to it, I had though from what I heard that the Onos was going to be adjusted, like the alien chambers, but the actual size stay the same. If the Onos does get bigger, then EVERY SINGLE custom map released up to this point will have to be recompiled in order to work correctly. Not to mention the changes mappers would have to make so marines wouldn't have an unfair advantage. (think abouthe seige room on seige) Do you think they'd wait until 2.0 was released to tell the mappers that?

    I just compared the hull files that came with 1 and 2, they are the same, so no changes in player dimensions.

    From 2.0 Mapping Guidelines:

    <b>Direct Onos Movement -</b> The largest alien requires has a bounding box that measures 64x64x108 units

    I hope this information is accurate.

    But if the onos size didn't change, why was ns_nancy reclaimed? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I assume it was compiled with standard half-life hulls rather than NS sized hulls
