Politeness Thread

I have seen a sudden drop in politeness in this section of the forum over a few weeks...and its gotten to a point to where something needs to be posted about it. I hope, some of the suggestions I will post, will help the situation.
#1. Commenting on the model
I have seen a few people just post down a one sentance thing, and think its fine. Im talking about the "Its not my style" or the "I dont like it" type of after-posts made towards the model. Well...if you dont like it, you dont have to use it correct? It isnt your obligation to post that its not your type of model, just dont even post if you think the model if fugly, or it isnt your style. Just dont post it, we all dont need to know that you dont like it.
#2 Critizism and further commentation on model.
Many modelers I bet love constructive critics, but here is a few examples that are not welcome.
"This model sucks heavy"
"Wow, that skin stinks"
"Thats the most horrible model I have ever seen"
"That model shouldnt even be released, its stupid, and ugly"
That, is not helping ANYONE. That further degrades a modelers feelings, and I have seen more than a few people quit from comments like that. Take for instance, a CS AK47 model I downloaded. I noticed that it had a massive clipping problem while reloading, and its orgins were quite messed. I e-mailed the auther.
Hi, I have just recently downloaded your CS AK74 replacement for the AK47. I noticed that there was a problem of clipping (gave him a link to a tutorial to fix it) I really like this model, and hope mabey you could fix it, and release? Its quite a wonderful model.
His answer
WOW thanks!! I never got any kind of nice comment like that for this model! Ever since CS nation gave it a 4, I just quit modeling. And that was just because of that horrible clipping problem. I got hundreds of spam e-mails saying that my model just plain sucks. No-one except the CS nation people even mentioned the clipping problem! I think I just will release the fixed version for you (P.S thanks for the link!)
That guy has been my best online friend for about 3 years now. See how kindness can go a long way?
If the model has some horrible problems with it or the skin, bring it up lightly. Example
Very nice model, but I noticed a problem here, here, and here.(try and provide a tutorial link to help them). I really like it, but with those problems fixed, I bet it will be awsome!
#3 Posting referance pictures.
Ive noticed some people try and go out of thier way to help another modeler..but sometimes it doesnt. Some people (wistles and looks inocently at sheena) post ungodly ammounts of reference pictures, one pic per post. That takes up alot of room for people to scan through. It might help the modeler yes, but it might not be the exact thing he is looking for.
#4 Realism Nazis
I noticed just a few, not alot, of people around here like realism. Heck, I like realistic as possible models to, but I can go for the usual mistake. Sometimes it even makes the gun rock even more. Posting
"It should be like this picture, not like what you have, the scope mount/trigger gaurd/wings/arms/hands/barrle/ect..is al wrong, they should be like this!"
Sometimes helps, but not always. A modeler likes freedom to do what he wishes, and always remember, its his model, he can do with it whatever he wants.
I hope some of this can help?

Comments
This is the third (or fourth) such topic that's been made here this year, and I think the best one. Modellers are a vain bunch - so anything to stop our feelings being hurt is very welcome.
Less than fifthteen percent know what being polite can bring about.
If that sounds a little harsh or condescending I apologize -.^ this is a thread on politeness after all.
i know i dont hang about here much, but what i have seen does worry me. it is exactly what greyfox has said
if you dont like something, dont use it
if you have nothing good to say, keep your mouth shut
[edit] coming back to my last point, maybe that explains why i dont come here often... [/edit]
I know I'd stop if I was a modeler.
And to prove our vain-ness, just look at Maus' sig, and see what he had to do to that poor, poor mouse.
-edit- BTW, Greyfox, just a request here, but could you change your avatar? That makes Asuka look evil...I don't know...just get another one of Asuka.

This is an excellent post, and it *is* a needed post in my opinion - just as needed as my own post was a few weeks ago. My own guidelines:
1) If you can't compliment or offer constructive advice for improvement, don't post.
2) If your post is insulting or unhelpful, don't post.
3) If you're going to rip into a model (and some deserve it) at least be kind enough to apologize in advance. If you mean well - if you're saying "this needs help" because you care - tell the modeler that.
4) When you offer a review, make it an objective one. Personally, I'm sick to death of Alien (the movie) skins/models, but if I see a good one I will compliment it - because regardless of whether or not I like the model, it may be a good model and worthy of praise. Don't ask yourself if you would use it - ask yourself "if I *were* interested in using this model, how good is it?"
I'll give this a short-term sticky.
"Its not that good because there are too many polys on the hoze part, and that could be lowered some, as the skin would cover it up. Also the tanks could be lessend in detail; half of them would be hidden when you're in-game, anyways." THAT is what the forum needs more of. Detailed. Friendly. Constructive. Non-biased. Criticism.
edit-typo
I always welcome criticism as long as it's constructive. This should be the case with everyone, IMHO. Simply shouting "u suk lol" doesn't help anyone, it just makes people wonder whether or not you graduated from 1st grade english. If you're going to critisize someone, atleast take the time to give detail into why you think their model/map/post sucks, don't simply say it sucks and expect us all to agree with or understand you.
Good post greyfox, it actualy pwned me.

Also "Stop" is red, "Caution" is yellow, and "Go" is green. The three trafic lights of politness.
