<div class="IPBDescription">And i don't mean rain</div>a couple of nights ago i was watching the last episode of Alias in series 1, and in it there was this scene where water was rushing down a hallway. and that got me thinking about PS based water.
<a href="http://www15.brinkster.com/psmouse/flowtest.zip" target="_blank">http://www15.brinkster.com/psmouse/flowtest.zip</a>
the first map (flowtest) shows water coming out of a pipe then running along the floor, and water running along a mini hallway that has a couple of obsticles
the second map (flowtest_final) is a small tribute to the above mentioned scene from alias, just walk to the door with the flickering light, and you'll figure out what to do after that <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
BTW these aren't heavily tweaked maps, the water doesn't push you, there's no sound and so on.
have fun <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Comments
This sounds fascinating. I will check this out when I get home shortly.
<!--EDIT|Fam|July 10 2002,23:31-->
but hey, you all seem to like it, so i'm happy <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
BTW i wouldn't mind seeing some versions of the maps that have been tweaked to make them look better
I'm probably a little slower than most people since I couldn't figure what I should do. I walk to the door, there's a small pause and then the door breaks down in pieces and reveals the wall behind it. After that, nothing. Tried walking every inch of the floor, using walls and doors, but still, nothing happens - no water, no cracks appearing and other stuff people mention here.
dont give the particles a "from-to" livespan, thats dust and not water.
hl crashes when i compile this. damn ps.
keep on it.
i cant run it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
if i start it from hammer hl (not ns) gets loaded and nothing happend
if i try to start it directly from ns i cant see it in my maplist <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
well thats a permanent problem
the ns shortcut dont work for me (starts ns background and fonts but i can only load hl maps)
i must load hl first and go over the custom game menu to load ns correct
but then i cant open many maps <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
to play it open a lan game with any map and type:
map flowtest
map flowtest_final
in console to load and play it.
[EDIT] oh, and if you guys didn't notice, I made this in July with the NSTR2, so I'm not too surprised about it not working
[EDIT] I can't get them to wrk, it seems I'm going to have to rebuild them from scratch
thx!!!
However, the room with the grate and the flowing particles beneath actually looks superb. That's some nice ps work Mouse <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm sure that the other two can be tweaked to appear more realistic. Has anyone seen the Making Of Metal Gear Solid 2 where it showed the water effects when they smash down the corridors after Snake? They took it out of the final game, but it looked amazing.
[edit]
after more experimentation, i've gotten flowtest_final to work 1 out of every 8 times for some reason...
i loaded up ns_bast and noticed that the env_custom_particle systems in it didn't work till the round began, so i figured i'd just add info_team_starts to see if that did anything, but apparently not :/ Since the round was always started in NSTR, that's why it worked in NSTR but not NS perhaps?
Also, turning on Developer 2, I noticed that NS doesn't even try to precache the Sprite until AFTER the particle system has been triggered... perhaps this is a bug in NS's particle system itself? That would explain funny particle system occurances, like bast sometimes having steam in the readyroom and sometimes not...
So get a snack while the map loads and then walk for it =) It takes while before it loads the particle effect
or something.
