<div class="IPBDescription">Now can it nubs</div><!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->With all the hubbub floating around the net lately about what would and what wouldn't run DOOM³, we decided to bring an end to the system requirement confusion and contact the main man, John Carmack, himself. Here is the official word on the minimum system configuration you'll need to run Doom³.
<i>1GHz CPU
256MB RAM
GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card</i>
Don't expect to run it fabulous with that system setup , but everything will be playable at least.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Now all you whiners griping about how GF4's are gonna get 12fps can shut it. :P
[edit]
Note to idiot warez monkeys: Don't brag about your leaked alphas in here, as I don't want the topic locked (for that anyway). Also if you think that the performance of a leaked, unoptimized, buggy alpha never meant for the public eyes is anywhere near the same as the final product, you're nothing short of a complete idiot.

Isn't it cool how we can still gripe? heheh. I just love annoying DOOM.

Hardly. TNT2, 800mhz P3, 384mb RAM can hold a solid 60+ in HL with ease.
- 500 MHz CPU
- 128 Megabytes of RAM
- 3D accelerated 32 MB video card or equivalent with HTL and a 24-bit z-buffer
- 160 MB free hard disk space plus space for saved games
- 16X Speed CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
- DirectX 8 Compatible Sound Card
- MS compatible mouse
- Keyboard
I pity the poor soul who bought BF1942 with that kind of computer, he's probably running it on the very lowest graphics with abour 30 frames.
Now look at Doom 3. Compare the quality of graphics. Now tell me, do you actually think it's going to run on a GF1 ?
And before anybody asks: HL2 requires a TNT2, just 1 generation less than DOOM III.
I can mow the lawn with my teeth, it just takes longer. I prefer to use a lawn-mower.
but lets say with an FX.. it will run how it should... in the sense off..
they want as many sales as possible.. so they will take the minimum as low as physically possible...
I'm just responding DOOM, I have no objective, rhyme or reason.
I just find it...very unlikely.

Nuff said I guess <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
[ot] My old K6-2 350 with Voodoo 2 ran an unpatched HL at a respectable 40-50, for that matter. Patched up to 1.1.1.0 it runs like a dog on my not-quite-as-old Celeron II 400 with GF2.
I don't know what those patches did, but they sure killed my online gaming until I got a better computer <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> [/ot]
And i get about 50 fps with full graphics and see site and about 28 when there is smoke :\
Hl2 and doom3 i will be able to run and will love them both <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Minimum specs = Unplayable slideshow
In most cases..
Good thing I'll be upgrading this Autumn, just in time for HL2. I can't say Doom3 even interests me at the moment.
Believe it or not a lot less detail has to be rendered in doom3 because it is indoors. Also less CPU time has to be devoted to enemy AI because there are a lot less enemies.
LOL that was my old set up! My first gaming PC <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
IBM Aptiva 450 with a (At the time) awsome Voodoo3.
Too bad Voodoo went under and with them PCI cards lol.
Right now I h ave a 2.36 ghrtz with 512RAM and GeForce 3 TI. Ill get a new G card and ill be back in buessiness.
Correct! I used to play with them enabled all the time. They were horrible, but they were available. They were flattened partially-transparent black versions of the model that came out from the foot of the character. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
(Actually, it may not be unpatched, either, it may have been added back at one point and then removed again.)
I will remind people that I got a chance to work on an unoptimized licensee evaluation copy of UT2K3 last summer, right in the middle of the giant "Oh, no one will be able to run it, yadda yadda" discussion that was going on in most of the online community... My box at work was a P3 500 with a TNT and 128 megs of RAM. I had to jack everything way down, but it ran pretty smooth and still even looked half-decent. Not anywhere near the polished quality, mind, but still good, nonetheless. I don't think it'll be as bad as a lot of people expect. At least, it's safe to say HL2 won't be, just since it was designed with more emphasis on low-end hardware from the start - not saying Doom3 has no emphasis on low-end specs, but just notably less. Buuut... I think they'll both be pretty reasonable, if not the best looking. Though I suppose the telling factor will be how much Doom3 fully relies on the bump mapping, specular, normal mapping, shadows, etc. Those are the big crunchers right there. If they've come up with a good way to reduce those, they'll be able to offer a fully playable experience for lower-end users.
Granted, I still hope to upgrade in time for an optimal gaming experience. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
