Conversions to the left, hackjobs to the right, and if you have some serious critisms about a model than if you don't word it right you get shot down. The first part of modelling is being able to take critism, because it will take you a LOT of time to actually get to a good quality in your work... you will never improve if you just ignore the complaints from others. You know, most of the talented modellers didn't actually release their first works, even those made from scratch. That's why it's called a LEARNING process, you can't just expect to jump into modelling and suddenly have skills, it's something you have to work on like all art. "If you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all" is REALLY not appropriate for an art community. I encourage people giving detailed and informed responses, but is it the end of the world if someone doesn't like my model? I prefer honest feedback instead of the traditional "kiss, kick, kiss, kick" method of critiqueing which has become evident in these forums.
Now with that rant aside, here is my HONEST opinion of your model. It's a hackjob and a bad one at that. It feels like you clicked the "scale" button in HL model viewer than pasted an ugly face on top of it. We've got this toothpick marine who was made by skinnying up the default model. No creativity, no real effort or thought. It's an idea that has been suggested about 100 times before and suddenly someone actually does it, and unfortunately does a poor job of it. I feel sorry that a decent idea got slaughtered so... I'd say make some real concept art, make is somewhat more unique than "a thin male marine" and then make it from scratch. You will learn a lot more, even if the model's quality doesn't end up that great it's a much better learning experience for modelling and skinning. As I've already stated, you don't HAVE to release every learning step you've ever made... that's one of the reasons this forum has so many posts to sift through to find anything of value. The face, the ONLY part perhaps that you did from scratch... looks like it was made out of 6 polygons and a gradient. You are seriously underestimating the amount of work that should be put into a model and it shows through very clearly. I hope you actually pay attention to this critique, because it WAS well thought out by myself. I just hope that I can still access the NS forums after I return from my figure drawing class later today.

A screenshot doesnt always give the best picture quality, belive me theres detail in the models face. more then 6 I certain. I didnt make the face as I said before I took nympho model and I took the marine model, decompiled both, and removed the body from nympho scale it to the helmet, scaled the hair down and moved it around, to the helmet and went verticy by verticy to get it to look decent for the shape of the head, reimported nympho to use as a base to keep the body correct, continued to scale verticy by verticy. trying to match it up with nympho, except for the chest region which is scaled down considerably.
Do not call my work bad,
I know its hackjob stop insulting the days of work I have put into this, I do listen to people they said the legs were too skinny I fattend em up a little bit, they still think they're skinny i'm trying to keep it clean and trying to make a female version of the marine, the best way to do that is to modify the male marine, instead of recreating the armor on a female model.
work continues guys, release soon. finishing up my site, I'll post the link here when its done.

*cough cough* yeah... I was bored in Economics yesteday and whipped up a quick sketch on a whim. Sorta UT2K3 inspired I guess, but the rifle is all made up. The pistol is real...see if you can guess what it is from that view....hehehe... Yeah yeah, sorta going against what this thread's original model was, a non-sexist female model, but I figured I should go Tombraiderish style at least once, and I think that this one isn't actually half bad. Just some ideas I guess, like the work so far Commandox20, even if it just a hack/edit, it's the farthest I've seen this idea get I think, so until the later versions where NS ships with honest to goodness female marines, (with their own voices to boot!) I think this is just fine and dandy. I'm kinda pleased with how this came out and will probably touch it up later, made add a few more details. Sorry it's not colored like Sheena's, my Adobe skillz = zero. All I could use it for was to desaturate the pic... Enjoy, or not, just throwing out some ideas I guess since everyone else is. And keep on working on it commandox, looking forward.
P.S. To all the anime buffs out there, guess who her hairstyle and suit is inspired from...
Female Marine Concept (And sorry for it being on Yahoo...hopefully you know the drill, put a space after the address in the address bar, right click save as, etc. etc. anyone of those...)
The armor is a dead on match, almost anyway, for the Evangelion plug-suits. When you said the gun I thought you meant the rifle and I was trying to classify it. There is a gun in existance that looks like it in structure, not so much design. (That means the outline, not any of the fancy rims and grooves.) I think the pistol is a beretta, not many widely used pistols have a rounded-off barrel top. (Okay so I don't know anything's name on the gun except for trigger, barrel, grip, and chamber =P )
And especially the plugsuits...and a lot about Shinji's(note the sig and avatar)...I MADE his plugsuit out of leather. Took me 11 months. Can't fit into it, nor can I find someone who can.

except im not that good of a modeler? Im mostly a mapper.
Its mostly been you guys saying release it I want it!!! (look back on pages 1-5 theres several guys who request release, or "when will it be done?" type things)
I think you are giving yourself too much credit commandox, the last 5 pages or so have been a lot of flaming, a lot of suggestions, and on your part it seems a lot of ignoring of suggestions. If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen may be an appropriate phrase to use, because you are trying to defend your lack of effort by saying it's something you don't normally do. Well if you don't want to be a modeller than why are you trying? and if you do want to learn to model why are you doing so in the worst way possible, releasing something that probably isn't worth releasing? As I've said before, not all early modelling work which you learn from has to be released, it ends up a waste of space which people don't really want except for convenience. A lot of people in other threads ask when something will be released, use the model once, then go back to their defaults or their "favourites"... make something memorable which people may actually use.

Fantastic work, Commando! No one else seems to want to make their own, just flame yours. Keep it up, I am definately going to download this.

At PerfectionsFlaw, good job spot on answer. The suit did somehow kinda mutate into the Eva plug-suits...don't really know how... Guess I wanted something that actually covered the whole body, not just like some armored skirt thingy, but still allow alot of movement and it morphed into that.. And the hair is taken more or less from Rei. *shrug* I was going for a different look that didn't work out and I scrapped it, revised it, looked at it and said. "Hey, it looks like Rei. Cool." As for the rifle, that one sorta falls under an M-4A1 Pulse Rifle, a M-A5B Assault Rifle, and a Sniper Stock. Heh. And the pistol was actually a USP Match-Grade. Sorry if you couldn't tell, easy ways to see from that horrid view were the rear-sights, slightly elognated barrel over the open compensator top, and the two vented holes on the back top of the slide. That and the right sided ejection port. Oooooooor you can all say "WTH, can't see that!" Yeah, enough of that.
I think this model should just be released already commandox, see no reason for holding back as other's have said. But I think it is a good effort on your half. Just maybe you should take into consideration what others have suggested, and maybe after releasing this and getting feedback, starting from scratch on your own as suggested, seems to be the best way to go in this area... So hope you release soon, or at least before 2.0... which gives you...err...about a week. Yeaaah...
Oh, and PerfectionsFlaw, love your avatar, makes me wanna run up and huggle a skulk in battle! Sooo squishy squishy!! *CHOMP* Ahhhh my arm!!!
