I Hate This :(

...I have a talent for making music in my head and humming/wistling it. Many of the people in my school who hear it while I walk down the hall, ask me what band it is. I just tell them I made it up...of course no one believes me but oh well....

I just cant...express myself through music! I want to, but every time I load up a program to try and re-make it...it...sounds wrong. I cant re-make it in real-world terms...all I can do is the drum beats on my drumset. I had sorta made a remix of Metallica's Eye Of the Beholder. It was...AWSOME. I had it mixed with symphony, and some other things....it just stunned me as I went through all the cords and drum beats, and lyrics as the symphony went wild.....bah anyone else have this trouble?

This, my friend, is one of life's problems, that can't be answered... Yes, I have that problem too. I sing to myself a lot but just can't put it right together on the computer...

You could always *gasp* learn to play an instrument.

Although then you would have less time for NS which is blasphemy, but then again, life is full of choices. You just have to learn to neglect the ones you don't like and learn to live with da ones you have left.

I just felt like putting 'da' there.

Do not try to fool yourself into thinking that drums are an instrument. Drums are a physical activity, but not an instrument.

You are very wrong my friend. Drums are considered an instrument as is a guitar (which I play btw..).

How can drums be considered an instrument? There are no notes to remember, you don't need to tune them very often(if at all depending on the amount you use them), it's all rythyms and keeping time which basically qualify most drummers as glorified metronomes. Unless you happen to be one of those drummers who plays on a quadrillion peaice set where each tom has a set pitch and you play extremely long fills that are actually thought out you are nopt creating music when you play. Merely keeping time and enforcing rythm which, although necessary to the music, is not music in and of itslelf. Therefore drums cannot be classified as a musical instrument.

    Take the Mel Brooks approach.

Record your humming/whistling/music and give it to somone who is smart enough to transcribe it.

Its called Mel Brooks Approach because he wrote the music for "The Producers" that way.

drums and bass included hold the whole song together in rhythm and so is required in songs, course its an instrutment , so is singing.

Yes do play an instrument. I play drums. Rather well if I do say so myself.
Trust me, not musical. Rythmic, yes. Musical, no.

I can also read music but get this: most of the time I don't need to, because I play drums! AND THEY ARE NOT MUSICAL!

I suggest you read some goob instrument books and learn a thing or two if you're playing drums.

You shall see that drums fall into the same category as other "stick" instruments. YES, INSTRUMENTS.

What exactly do you mean by instrument books?

Like a practice book with rythms and exercises and stuff in it? Cuz I already have those.

No sorry... I meant an instrument encyclopedia...

Well I'm going to be forced to disagree with the encyclopedia. if it says that.

Or maybe I'm just a self hating drummer who wanted to play keytar but had stubby fingers and fat palms so was forced to play drums. Nah.
  • RPG_JssmfulhudRPG_Jssmfulhud Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4006Members
Well, you should be proud of playing the drums. You gotta have the "feel" for it.

Anyway, I attended the musical school, so I know thta the drums are instruments as well.

I simply do not see how rythm and time and perhaps a few fills and decorations to make it look pretty can be classified as music. I'm not saying that drums are not necessary, but they are not musical. Xylophone is musical, timpani even can be musical, but not "drums" in the literal sense. And I do know how to play all three.
