w
[OMG I'm bad at this... I forgot to upload... hold on... (I just posted this in Frontiersman strat accidently...)]
the other way around? I've recently started working on a Natural Selection map for starcraft, so any of you SC fanboys, feel free to look at the terrain work I've done already. [a lot of terrain clipping... 3+ hours of work on 50% of the map!]
Lemme give you a quick browse through the terrain. The upperleft area is "Comm Hub," down from there is the "Starport," then there's the power generator to the right (hive area), through a series of catwalks there's the "abandoned Warehouse" (starting hive area). There's another series of "walkways" before you get to the business area, and from there the Hydroponics Bay area, all of which is yet to be finished.
The game itself will still capture the I'm Being Followed feeling [for marines] by disabling Starcraft's auto attack feature. Instead, you have to press A and then manually target each alien. Aliens however do not have this disability.
Resource nodes will work just as in the game -- every trigger check = +1 resources for the team, and distributed just as in the game.
The few things I haven't figured out how to implement is marine building. I want the marines to guide the buildings to completion, but I'm not sure how to get this working, without a mass of triggers that would probably fail to work anyhow. I have the feeling I'm going to have to resort to the mass of triggers .
Anyways, I won't bore you, download the map and check out the terrain, and if you feel like it, load it up in starcraft and walk around. There are no triggers yet, but then I've only been working on this for one day.
P.S. I'm an ex-NS player... I quit when I finally had enough of the 5FPS I was getting every time a Phase gate got built. Yes, I have an integrated i810. **** thing.

Got it.
Must try out this map!
I'm redoing the entire terrain in Installation.
For the record, dynamic lights (e.g. phase gates, and I believe welders as well) can be disabled in 2.0 to improve performance on old machines.
As for the map - don't have starcraft installed right now, but cool idea! Best of luck.
Best change of all too
/me prepares to wipe dust bunnies off cd case
At the moment no. Just to make those few... strange... wierd... insignificant vanilla people like you happy, I'll try to make it vanilla. If I have to-- maybe a vanilla version.
Anyways, I've decided to remake it in Installation. Platform was ok... but just not what I had in mind. Prepare for something even more exotic .
[ed: FYI, I've done some thinking and I see now that I probably won't use any BW units nor would there be any reason to. Smile ]
PS: YES YES YES!!! I love the NS team! I'm gonna fire up halflife as soon as 2.0 comes out!

Zerling = Skulk
Drone = Gorge
Mutalisk(?) = Lerk
Hydralisk = Fade
Ultralisk = Onos
Oh! And how will you do the marines?
Marine = Marine (with LMG)
Firebat = Grenade Launcher
Hero Marine (?) = Marine (with HMG)
Is that right? Or do you have something else in mind? Oh, and how will you get the Kharaa building to work? I imagine it would take a whole mess of triggers to respawn the drone after each building...
I never even thought of doing a SC Natural Selection map. In case you couldn't tell, I'm very excited. ;p
All in all, this looks real tight. I'll load it up when I get home today.
Raynor = Heavy Marine
Gui Montag = Heavy Flame Thrower
I've concluded that it would be impossible to install siege turrets w/o taking 2 of my precious player slots, so there won't be any of those... (I simply can't have siege tanks blowing skulks up).
Mutalisk=Lerk
Hmm... I originally thought of eliminating the lerk, but now I can see it being a hit and run scout, used to soften up troops etc. Since marines don't auto aim, it could easily fly through the marine base and have a look. Something to experiment with in playtesting. Another possibility I have is adding a new Kharaa unit, the Drazil (... I'm sure someone out there can think of a better name), which is none other than out beloved Infested Terran.
Some other things I'm thinking about:
Two maps on one SCM?
Automated defense systems (You know, those pop up flamethrowers/ machine guns in installation tilesets)
Lockable doors
Possible Units:
Lerks
Ghosts
Medics [which would mean a special vanilla version]
Drazils (Infested Terrans)
I was gonna make a huge list of possible features etc, but then I realized I'd be biting off more then I can probably chew -- so for now, no promises . I'm not even sure yet if I can still use the installation tileset (you can't build in game with it--but you can (I think) use triggers to create buildings.
I can just imagine all the strats now... imagine, walking along an abandoned hallway and having a drazil unbury in front of you, then watching the rest of your team get eaten up by skulks... ah... Fresh Meat! Anyways, expect a lot of changes to accomadate Natural Selection's new engine . That might involve a complete rip up of some of the systems currently available...

Well, if you're looking for an update... I'm nearly done with the level terrain. Will upload in a few minutes.

DAMN U!!! i had a NS map almost finished, it was amazing, hard coding and such for triggers, it even has a door that traps u in a pushes your guy to the space area and (using your imagination from the dead, ling or rine or whatever u were using and text saying u got sucked into space well you got the idea) too bad i abandoned SC due to comp space, i still have the editor and the map if anyone wants it go ahead have fun with it ill gladly send it, just put my name sumwhere in the objective or breifing area RaVn581<---AIM
Eh... I got a bit sidetracked and went to help someone on blizzforums.com on a trigger, that took about 30 minutes. So... ya I'm still working on the terrain... and it's looking awesome . 150% more terrain then there was on the last version, and I got some new RTs up as well. Triggers are still empty, though I've pretty much finalized how I'm going to set it up.
--Flame Throwers--
huh?
and then if they lose their Gorge, spawn a new one at that location, then just set it so if he DIES instead of just vanishes, that wont happen...
AND! Will you have redemption? i already know how you could impliment that with triggers... MWAHAHAH... *Cough* ok, sorry if I'm going off here......i just love making SC/BW maps and trying to get advanced things done with triggers, lol
Oh, and you guys think you have it bad?
350Mhz
Voodoo 3
128MB PC100
I am more than thankful for the ability to disable dynamic lighting... i am lucky if i make 10fps staring blankly at a wall.....

very bad infact, im awaiting a new hard drive soon from ups so ill be getting starcraft back into action, as of now im finishing up my terminator map (tm;))

What's wrong with the flamethrowers? It's what you guys always wanted anyways .
Redemption would be cool I guess. Still tipsy on the alien part... I mean you could have an alien abuse the game and have them "teleport" into another area.
I've got a 20gb drive... I've done everything... but ever 3 days my download folder needs a cleaning.
too much...?
Times like this I wish I had played SC at some point. I'm a RPG/TBS guy myself, I just don't like real-time strategy very much (although WC3 is greatly above average). NS, OTOH, is fun. Even when commanding the level of micromanagement required is much lower.
