Swg Pay For Patches?

Clarify those of u who play it
I just heard a rumor that Star Wars Galaxies (a pay for Play MMoRPG) will be charging players for patches/expansions. The example I heard was that the space aspect of the game (piloting your own ships) that was supposed to be released with the game when it came out, will be an add on in 2004 that they willc harge for? Any truth to this?
PS
Is it worth it?
I'm considdering buying the game

One thing i'm wondering, if it needs to be purchased seperately, how do you figure the compatability will be between the original copy and the expanded copy.
This makes me want to crush them into small piles of beefs.
Here's me holding out from subscribing until the initial proposed features are implemented (space travel, self-pilotable vehicles, et cetera) and lo and behold we have to PAY for them.
Sorry, but they just lost themselves a customer.

Self pilotable vehicles and stuff are planned for patches, I think. Space travel was never in from the getgo, it was always in the expansion.

How is it Sony's fault that you got confused and thought the expansion pack was part of the game? I mean you don't see me crying cause Frozen Throne wasn't bundled with Warcraft III :P
Warcraft 3 is an excellant game in its own right - SWG is not
not to mention frozen throne is worth paying for - SWG is not.
GreyPaws is mistaken, you do not have to pay for patches.
Warcraft III/SWG was announced. "Clan Features!/Pilotable Vehicles!"
Warcraft III/SWG had the feature pulled do to time constraints. "We'll put them in the expansion!"
Frozen Throne/SWG Exp announced. "Clan Features!/Pilotable Vehicles"
Frozen Throne/SWG Exp released with Clan Features/Pilotable Vehicles.
The big difference is that Blizzard isn't run by freaking accoutants and decided to retrofit Warcraft III with the same features because they love games, not money.
And yes, I agree that SWG is a waste of money at this point. Wait 2-3 years. But them WoW will be out!
Someone learned math at the nice wood building where the teachers use apples to explain addition, and don't even TRY to make it to subtraction.
I've been comparing quite a number of reviews, and in the end, it seems to boil down to how tolerant you are to bugs and whether you decided for a crafting or a fighting class. The extensive SWG coverage of GSI has in my eyes a simple reason: Whether good or bad, it's still the summer title 2003 (until July 31st, that is ).
Er, it's on the official site that they offer 1 year's subscription for around $140.
The difference between Frozen Throne and the SWG Expansion is that for WC3 you're not paying $15 per month only to find out that you have to pay an extra $40 (or whatever) for an expansion pack which they didn't manage to get in the initial release.

Well it'd be interesting if you saw that picture and thought of Super Mario Bros.....
I have experienced p2p MMORPGs in the form of Ultima Online, a great game. Maybe not graphically superb (i still prefer 2D mode) but still... great!
Until it gets repetetive and you've killed every monster in the game and you get sick of mages called "G@nd@1f" saying "OMG i kill3d a Balr0n, I r teh l33tz0r!".
The roleplaying guild kept my interest for another 3 months, I joined the guardsmen millitia and had a lot of fun with consensual PVP against the other Roleplaying guilds (and got Owned repeatedly by the undeads), but then I got bored again. And I realised they were releasing ANOTHER expansion.... so I quit.
In the history of UO there has been:
Ultima Online (original)
Renaisance (spelled wrong)
The 2nd age (first one I bought, it was on sale for £2 since third dawn was out)
Third Dawn (commonly called "Turd Yawn", since it SUCKED) I payed £30 for it
Lord Blackthorne's Revenge (Now THIS was actually worth buying, it came with quest features, LOTS of new monsters, and an actual STORYLINE OMG OMG OMG, no more aimless killing, i get to aimlessly kill the scenario monsters instead!!!111one!!)
And then they released the latest one, the name of which I forget. I didn't want to pay another £30, so i didn't. Bye bye UO.

One thing i liked from my experience of UO was the cost. I picked up Renaissance (i think) for something like £10-15 and then got online on a free server. No subscription costs, yay!
SWG was release rather crapping why should one spend money MONTHLY then have to pay 50 dollers more a month later
I don't see when character storage for 15 bucks is legal. like I said all MMORPG have 1 fatal flaw their godamn expencive.
Tho I still shelled out cash for 10six.
I think that is pay for play games were fare I would buy into them
IE if I pay $15 for one month of gaming I should get 30 full days (720hrs)
but people like me who are busy and get to play for 4 days a month (sundays) it comes out to $15 for 40 hrs (if I play 10 hours per day on sundays) and not a month like they claim.
So as soon as the money making jugernauts who put these games out deside they want to be fair I'll buy in.
You don't have to pay for patches
All of you anti SWG are just IGNORANT IDIOTS.
Thx.
Every other company in the gaming industry makes extra money from expansion packs... Sony is entitled to use a business practice that clearly works.
Apparently, alot of gamers have some sort of anti-establishment problem which means they all hate Microsoft, Sony, or any other big company. Windows XP pro is the best OS I've ever had the pleasure of using. Sony has put out one of the best products they've ever made with SWG.
When I first started playing SWG I disliked it, but it has gradually grown on me to the point where I really enjoy it now.
Well no way in hell i am paying £94 to play a game online, sorry Sony but you lost a customer.
BTW cri.tical have you played the beta?

I use Windows XP too, that dosen't mean im going to shell out a few $100 for the honor of playing a POS game. The following comic sums it up wonderfully (Sorry for the explenative in it).

Wow what constructive opinions.
Please, don’t stop teaching us about business practices ohh great shaman.
And like I said, if you were billed for the time you ACTUALLY spent playing, it would be ok. I dont like the Idea of paying $15 to get 4 days worth of gaming out of my supposed "month"
