<div class="IPBDescription">is baseball insane?</div> Well, tonight is the 2003 MLB All-star game, and for whatever reason MLB has decided to award home-field advantage in the World Series to the League that wins tonights games. This is the first time such a set up has been tried, mainly due to anger by the fans over last year's tie. Just thought I'd ask for what people think of this format along with predictions for tonight's game. Personally, I hate the new format, as I think an exhibition game should be just that and have no effect on the rest of the season. Oh, and just to get the ball rolling, NL is going to win by a comfortbale margin.

    MLB = teh meh

    I think that it's gotten far to commercial and they aren't even letting sosa and bonds do the home run derby, but whatever team wins getting homefield advatage is a good idea

    I like that the all-star game has some meaning again. Ever since the (retarded) new format of interleague play began 3 years ago, the all-star game has been relegated to a dumb photo op. The players are too scared to play and get hurt (in stark contrast with say, Pete Rose coming in hard at home plate in the 1970 game and knocking Ray Fosse into next week). The managers are too willing to make sure 'everybody gets to play', like a bunch of sissy little leaguers (back in my day, if you were a reserve on the all-star team you were likely not playing, and nuts to you for not being as good as the starters). And it has just generally felt like the grammy awards instead of the best of the best meeting in healthy competition.

    So I think that's a step in the right direction. Now if only I could convince AL management to get rid of the DH, cut salaries and ticket prices by 90%, and stop being candy-arse wimps about dusting batters from time to time. Bud Selig is definitely part of the problem, that wank. GG milwaukee, thanks for giving us that hoser.

    Amen. Now, we just have to get MonsE into some offices to do a little "persuasion"...

    I dont know, its just not what it used to be, sports.

    Baseball like all the sports now is getting so commericalised and such.

    In other sports, Look at Kobe bryant with his $45 million dollar deal with Nike or whoever it is.

    NASCAR racing . (No Im not a fan, Driving 500 laps in a circle is just boring to me. Love F1 and Rally though) The famous Winston Cup race may one day be called the Kodak Cup. Depending on who wins the next term contract for promotion.

    I was watching in the discovery channel how they want to put in scrolling banners and stuff that will change adds on your TV screens. These adds also include "On field" adds. Ie. The center circle on a soccer field would change adds. Kind of like that "yellow yard line" TV effect that seems "projected" onto the field at American Football Games.

    Then all the players are asking for more money, more money. I mean you already get paid insane amounts to just sit the bench. And if you are a starting player you get hundreds of thousands or millions to play a GAME.
    One more strike in the baseball area and I think that "industy" will be done with. Its all more the looks and money now then it is as a good hobby or pastime.
