Not The P.C Kind Either!
OK, so last night (well this morning at 2am-ish), I was chatting
to a friend on MSN, we're about to go have a quick game of Day
Of Defeat and everything is normal.
As I'm typing in the i.p address I notice something move in the
corner of my eye. At first I think its the cat, but then I remember
letting the cat out and locking the backdoor after it, so there's no way
its my cat.
As I move my head to my right, I look down at my scanner, and sitting
on top of the scanner, staring directly at me... is a little brown mouse.
Now i've never seen a mouse up-close like this before, cats, dogs, gerbils, hamsters
... yes. But a mouse... nope.
So as I say to myself "what the ***!?" it gets startled and runs behind
the old fire place (which we thought was blocked up).

Now, i don't want a mouse in my house, they breed quickly and before
long we'll be infested. So I need some trapping methods.
I don't want to kill it, I'd rather let it go free somewhere or give
it to a good home. As mentioned before, I have a cat, but like most domestic cats....
it's dumb. There's not a chance in hell that my idiot (in a nice way) cat will
catch that mouse.

So when I realised that all i know about mice and the hunting there-of, comes from
Tom & Jerry cartoons, I realised I knew nothing.

Any help? Home made traps anyone? Are they nocturnal?
What do they like to eat? Any info is new info so please post.

Cats sometimes work but depends on your house. You might as well buy your own traps, it will be far more efficient and probably cheaper. The best ones lure the mouse onto an INTERNAL trigger that basically slices them in half. It is more fool proof than a typical mousetrap, which they can often chew the food off without setting off the trap.

You can also do what I do and catch them bare handed. They do bite and are quite feisty, but they aren't overly intelligent and will make a fatal mistake. It requires a lot of patience.

Yes, they are most active at 9pm-6am.

You can sometimes find them during the day also depending on how hard you are making getting food.

Peanut butter works well from a trap perspective, but they will essentially eat anything. Be aware they WILL chew through packets to get at the contents inside.

They then proceed to **** it everywhere afterwards :/

Incidently, those traps vaguely resemble catapults with a little circular ball thing. From memory you bait it like a mousetrap but instead of coming down on the animal, it throws it up into a pit thing it can't get out of. The other thing to do is a gravity trap, which has a relatively obvious function.

    Different trap altogether.

They are insanely expensive normally and as such I don't typically like them.

One time I slept at my friend's house there was a scratching noise, like a digging sound coming from his wardrobe. We checked it several imes and nothing. It stopped at about 2am until about 5am when it started again. We stayed up all night checking the wardrobe lots of times. We guessed it was nothing.

At about 12pm my friend went to get ready when I was downstairs. All I heard was "arghhhhhhhh A MOUSE!!!!!!!!!" He had got his T-shirt down and a mouse jumped out of it and ran into his brother's room. So my friend shut the door to the bedroom trapping it inside.

My friend, his dad and me went upstairs equipted with a cup or something, and started chasing it... but it was super fast. I saw a Pringles tube so I put it next to the wall and scared the mouse, it ran straight into the tube... CaL SAVED THE DAY!!!

    Solution, Pringles tube!

I wouldn't recomend catching them by hand they may have rabies. Get the kind of trap like where it is just a plank of wood with a spring that that cuts the rat in half when it eats the food. Make sure you check the thing too other wise you end up with magots. Peanut butter is the best bait.

he said a humane trap, burn down the house that'll make it runaway, or wait for it to come out of it's hiding place then block it of, leaving the mouse out in the open then make a trail of cheese leading to the door lead it outside then quickly run inside and lock the door and windows.

Humane traps are all good and all but they are expensive and have an unacceptable chance of FAILURE. Get a normal mouse trap it may kill the mouse but hey you probably step on bugs and eat burgers all the time. Theres no difference if you ask me.

OK i've been advised to use the following method.
Tilt a large glass on a 45 degree angle and place some "bait"
at the bottom. Prop the glass up with books or something.
Basically the mouse crawls in, eats the food and can't crawl back
up because it's claws can't grip the glass.

Don't know if that will work or not but I'm going to try as
many methods as possible. Got to catch it incase there's 2 and they
    breed.

Here's a pic of my cat, and why it will NEVER catch the mouse.
Afterall it does sleep 23 hours aday.

dude, inf's "cat" is off the hook

and yeah, you might get a glue trap, those work and since you don't want to kill it you can always use a tranq gun (kidding!)
