Apparently a new version of Steam too, but mine doesn't seem to want to update, and I don't know how to make it do so.

they said that last week too..

and the week before..

remember like 4 months ago when the new hl patch was due out "any day now" ? yeah...

one thing about valve, they are absolutely HORRIBLE with announced dates. If Valve actually ships HL2 by Sept. 30th, it will be the first time in the history of the company they haven't been late. :P

I've seen the video before, but the higher res is appreciated.
This is the sort of promotional video for which competing game designers look at it, then break down and cry

the video doesn't work for me. It just changes the resolution and displays a little black box in the upper left hand corner of the screen. They HAd to put it in a proprietary format.

Proprietary Format? What's that?

its a file format that someone owns and has exclusive rights to.
The movie file on steam is an executable file and does all the playing for you with a player that I've never heard of. I'm assuming its proprietary, it might not be. Either way its damn annoying since it doesn't seem to work.

Wasn't out when I posted in the thread nub. Besides, its still late, as it was due out a week ago. I don't wanna hear your griping if HL falls back to November 6th :P

And so now that I've seen it, blah. That's it? Weeks of hype for that? Gah. I was expecting it to be the whole long thing, but nooo they took the most boring part of the entire presentation. The real kicker though was I've been messing with the Steam BS for about a week, only to have the download finish from 3D Gamers first.

And yeah, dumb of em to use Bink. A high quality divx would have been much better, and when you liscense it they coulda put that in non-codec required exe format too, that's what Blizzard did w/ the warcraft 3 videos...

So I guess its 1 short clip a week till HL2 is out eh?
• Dr_ShaggyDr_Shaggy Join Date: 2002-09-26 Member: 1340Members, Constellation
Hee hee, I'd be pissy too if I had been all hyped for Doom3 and saw how much better this was.

You know I'm just kidding Doom, lighten up man. I was thinking maybe the use of bink was for quality issues. That video looks lossless to me, can even a large divx vid give that quality?
• DOOManiacDOOManiac Worst. Critic. Ever. Join Date: 2002-04-17 Member: 462Members, NS1 Playtester
A large 66MB Divx with not much action (as far as fast FPS car chase + explosions goes) with only about 1 minute of footage? Most definately, you could do better than DVD Quality and still probably have a smaller file size...

The last Matrix Reloaded trailer was only about 70mb, and the video resolution on it was ungodly high, better quality than a DVD.
• Dr_ShaggyDr_Shaggy Join Date: 2002-09-26 Member: 1340Members, Constellation
Actually yeah, I'm thinking quicktime is a good one for this kind of stuff, or even WMV. Ever seen the super high quality WMV vids? Way higher quality than HDTV, but you need like 2 GHz to run them smoothly.

Woah Confuzor, good find! When/how did the lab vid get out? Tell me it was in that rediculous 400meg file that got cached during the first vid download.
• ConfuzorConfuzor Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2412Awaiting Authorization
Hmm, looks like your right. I get my sources from http://aixgaming.com/...

So the guys over on the halflife2 forums figured out a way to hex edit the cache file and get the Kleiner's Lab video out a day early. So without further adieu, here it is via Filerush.com / Bit Torrent.

Just because it isn’t new? Lol.

The quality is 100times better than the 500meg one and good to show peoples that how it will look on their computer (This is a video, not ingame).

Probably the one where gordon has a pistol and goes into the house and uses radiator shield to shoot the combine guy into the coke can, that whole sequence. hope they have the zombies blowing up w/ the cars part still :D

I'm a bit disappointed they skipped the 'zoo' part. where they had the pachinko machine and stuff. :/

There was a scene that wasn't in the E3 video (the big 600 mb Gamespy one). There is a scene where you see a soldier getting waved about by this big blue tentacle thing. I wonder if it that will be getting released, I saw it on Gamespot.
