There are 3 reasons for not having exosuits in NS.

    1) The maps are mostly close-quarters. An exosuit would have limited mobility at best.

    2) Even if the exosuit were small enough to move around the map freely, it'd be tough to code as an upgrade and not a class in and of itself. and there are no marine classes.

    3) We don't want to get Foxed for being too much like anything Alien®-related.

I never said anything about it being giant, or even a robot suit - just an exoskeletal deal.

*goes to look around in the faqs for mention of this thing... I know I read about it*

I believe it was mentioned once or twice as a possibility in the forums. (An exoskeleton, not an exo-suit builder thingy.)

Like, a small, man-sized chassie, that could have models put over existing marine models, just like in firearms, like for different armor.

You could do whatever you wanted with this then, have it be like super-armor, like a gun, whatever.

I really don't think coding would be a problem.

I think I would rather see them all bound in bubble wrap.

Mukade! From oni! His skin is exosuit-ish! Make it a moblility exosuit. IT adds endorphines to the marine body. This allows the marines to run faster with heavy weapons and jump higher.

Actually for jumping higher, that's what the jetpacks are for.

well, the exosuite would allow for faster sustained travel (this is all waht im getting and expecting from teh CURRENT EXOSUITE IN DEVELOPMENT FOR THE ARMY.  its like waht u said (this inst hte aliens one), a small, lightweight chassis around the body.  it could make the marine run faster, run at normal speed w/ heavy weapons, and be more accurate.  it wouldnt really protect from damage, heck, it might even be worse if u were damaged in an exosuite, cause u would move tons slower & crap.

Mukade was a cool boss. His suit seemed more like full body armor than anything able to contain the motor-assisted devices for an exosuit. However, the way you are putting it, having the suit contain a delivery system for endorphines or other performance-enhancing drugs, it wouldn't matter that the suit doesn't have any kind of mechanical aspects to it.

actually (i cant remember the book name), in one of the Battletech books, it mentions how the Elemental's (arse-kicken exosuites) inject drugs 'n crap in u to keep u fightin, i would imagine the Marine's suites would do the same, but with nanos, otherwise the marines would be huddling in pain with 1 hp left, instaed of fighting for your life <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Hey guys! I have an idea! Lets all suggest a bunch of random, incoherent ideas that are all rehashes of other games! Also, lets complain that the mod is taking to long! Wheeeeee!
  • Sgt_XSgt_X Join Date: 2002-03-01 Member: 261Members
The whole point of the ideas forum is to throw around incoherent ideas from all sorts of sources. If you don't like it stick to the other forums. Also I see a nasty # 1 beside your posts count, therefore it is my civic forum duty to say, "Read all the FAQs, this includes to one on this site and the one at <a href="http://www.readyroom.org/" target="_blank">www.readyroom.org</a>."

    Have fun and such.

***Edit*** My extremly stupid bad, this is not in the ideas forum. <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo--> I have now made an idiot of my self, someone please shoot me now.
<i>Note: I'm leaving the stupid text up because it'll help ppl undermine our forum society, all newbies here can just point at the idiot with 300+ posts and say, "He knows nothing so none of you know anything."</i>***/Edit***

However, PickledFetus... try to play nice, k?  No need to flame, especially since you're likely to get a flame right back.  And that's just messy.

by Flayra in the ideas forum, thread name: "mech"

"Well I dn't think mechs would ever go into NS (and vehicles will never go in).  However, there is an upgrade planned that would probably be the next best thing for you.  If the marines build a "prototype lab" (it's at the end of the tech tree), the have the choice of researching..."exoskeletons".  This would give the marines a light (but visible) exoskeleton and make them much much tougher.  It would also make them sound like the loader in Aliens when the walk. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->"

and by mole: "It's basically the marine's answer to the class Five."

Yeah, my postcount leaves something to be desired, but I've actually been lurking here and following NS for a long time, at least since last October or so, so I've read all the FAQ's, etc.

Also, I'm not trying to flame really, but it seems that at the same time that the dev team is nearing the end of their work, the forums are overflowing with new ideas that would be nearly impossible to implement, and sometimes just plain pointless. Once release 1 is out the door, that's the time when the team is going to be looking to the forums for new ideas on release 2, and thats the time when we should be brainstorming new ideas, not now. The team probably won't even see most of these ideas if we post them now (hopefully they're busy working on NS), especially large, unrefined features like I see way too often.

Exosuits would be badass, but I don't think they fit NS.

Drunken Bozo, you like Screeching Weasel?

This was a pathetic attempt to get my post count up, good day.

ahem, I said Flayra said that quote, in other words, the creator of the game, the coder, Natural Selection is his vision, to say that exosuits do not fit NS and have Flayra including them...

I knew I'd read that somewhere, Gwa.  Thanks.

yay, kewl...  that exo sounds like fun, altho i think mine might be more possable and fit in with NS's tastes 'n such, itll still be badass, lol

I think it would be interesting to just have enhancing armor modification thingies.

Instead of buying a big mech suit, the commander could buy just like an upper-body covering type of thing.

Oni comes to mind, for some reason.  Think of the Heavy Strikers, how they have all these cool plates on their armor, etc, etc.  Also if any of you have played Chaos Gate, or are warhammer fans (dunno about that) I also am thinking of Space Marines with heavy weapons (they have special helmets).

What I am thinking of for the TSA marines is like a helmet/arm type of device.  The helment would have cool eyepeices or something like that, so you could zoom (ahem moderately).  Then the arm would have a built in gun.  Maybe the Seige Turret gun or something.  Then it would be cool.  The Marines woud just wear this shoulderpeice and voila, it's part exoskeleton, part personal augmentation!!

BTW Oni owns.  If only JK2 was on the oni engine, lightsaber combat would be so great.

For the third time I say, Mukade. He rules. What is so far fetched as having the "exskeleton" resembling his model? Kind of like still-suits from Dune, but combat purposed.

    Regenerating Tech

Speed Augmentation (faster run speed and jump)

    Faster Weapon switch/weapon auto switch?

Radar Vision (Press NumPad2 when wallhacking CS to see what I mean)

Detection Laser ( A scanner that loks on to enemies in your LOS)

Hazard Protection (This goes REAL deep. I think the suit would be cool if this was all it did. Basically... no acid damage, no drowning, and immunity to stinkcloud)

Lol, it is the only way I can explain it. It isn't wallhack, it is a feature that removes all the textures from the walls. I think it could be nifty if you pruced it up nice. Yes, I have OGC. No, I don't use it. Cheaters suck (Do not call them h4x0rs, they don't actually hack anything. Calling them h4x0rs just goes to their head and they cheat more).
