Couple More Xp Questions

It used to be that when I booted up XP, it just booted to the desktop and that was that.

I reinstalled windows recently, and everything was going fine for a few weeks

Then I did a massive liveupdate, and now when I boot up, it takes me to that screen where you have to select the user (username with icon next to it) to log in. I want to skip that part.....

Also, now when I click on some download links (.zip), it'll say "invalid or corrupted file" when I KNOW the file works from past use and from other people downloading it recently. I mucked something up and I don't remember what.

If you have multiple users then you will get this screen. If your account has a password you will also get this screen. As for the .zip files, I couldn't really say but I'd suggest you try them on a different pc because they might have become corrupt.

MY Xp also corrupts downloads, anything large, exe or zip. could be my virus scanner, i dont kno what causes it, but IE wont downlaod for crap. gotta get a download client and it will handle the problem.

If it's only happeing with .zips then try using a proper compresion program like winzip or powerarchiver to handle your .zips. The windows built in zip support is really rather basic.

i dont have a clue about the zip file part.

But the logon bit i do know about.

Get Powertoys for XP, and tell it not to display users in the login screen, and to login automatically. Works for me - unless i do an update and it screws all my settings up.
