<div class="IPBDescription">How beefy are your doors / lifts.</div> Just wondering, how many of you mappers out there make "deadly doors".

I prefer to have my doors do damage at least semi-realistically, and if it's a powered, heavy lift, then what's to stop it crushing even an onos to death.

What's everyone else's opinion on door damage?

Now, when I make doors/elevators, I take the average player and tries to invision his/her reaction to
the product. And it takes no einstein to figure that the average hothead semi-retard-just-installed-ns
will get p1ssed after getting into an elevator shaft 2 secs after the elevator departed, and 2 secs later
getting killed by the elevator. Therefore, I nev´er set door/elevator damage. Although a func_weldable
set to 2 mins in a hive with a moving ceiling with 500 ^ 500 ^ 500 dmg dropping down on the hive would
    be cool...

I rarely use any doors or lifts but now I have already 3 lifts and one moving door in my map. Lifts does not do any damage but the door is kind of big and heavy so it closes very slowly, makes heavy sound and lots of damage. If I add any smaller doors I wont put any damage to them.

I initially thought the purpose of having doors/lifts do damage was to prevent them from getting messed up, like the double doors on nothing. However, I found that that simply didn't work, so now I use func_trains for most everything dispite the glitches there. Anyway, for considering how much damage something should do I look at it with a mix of realism and gameplay. Realism says that if it's just a small door it wouldn't do damage, but if it's a large door of lift it probably would. Gameplay considers what the implications of someone blocking it would be. If it's just a door, there isn't that much need for it to do damage. On the other hand if it's an elevator like the one to powersilo on caged, you might want to make it do damage to prevent someone from sitting under there and blocking it.

    I think of it realistically.
Would you really stand under an elevator?
because chances are you probably would get killed anyway!
and if there was say two big hydraulic doors closing would you
    actually just stand there???
Adding damage adds very much to the realism if you ask me.
+ so wat if someone gets **** of about being killed by something closing
    its there own fault!!!

    thats wat i think anyways

But you also have to think realistically about being realistic. If this is a place were people are around it commonly there aren't going to take the chance of it crushing someone. Think about the doors on a RL elevator. Those could probably crush someone, but people are walking through them constantly so they have a safety mechanism so as not to be crushing people. The elevator it's self on the other hand, would crush someone in a second if they happen to get underneath it.

I dont like doors at all. they always close in the wrongest moment.
making players just half dead is a nice solution.
Placing a func_seetrough on the ground (so even gorges cant build) it the best.
placing a trigger presense that toggles a master to "dont close the door when someone is inside" is complicate but perfect.
When you are the last man standing and you doorkill a skulk, while he leaps trough, can be satisfiing.

Oh well, maybe a trap corridor like the ones found in quake and unreal tournament?
That'd be nice too...although it has already been done on a massive scale in that maze map ollj made...
    ...ok, I'll shut up now...
