How Do I Make A Hera Hologram Without Yellow Dots?

WarpZoneWarpZone Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 6264Members

Search Forums feature is broken, BTW...
I want to make a hologram generator like the one in the holoroom in Hera. I've put two func_furnature entities in my map; one for the generator, the other for the light beam. But for some reason, no matter how I arrange them, I get the little floating yellow dots indicating that the light model is stuck in a wall. How do I fix this?

(I'm sure this question has been asked before, but for some reason the forum won't let me search.)

put up some brushes with the CLIP texture on them under the models to raise them slightly.

Use env_sprites instead. Just insert the .mdl path/filename in instead of a .spr one.

What is the difference between the two entities when displaying models, except for the 'gravity effect'?

The env_sprite will only display a static model, so no moving of any kind, no AI, no gravity, etc. It just displays it.

I haven't tested this but I would think that sprite models and monster models would be displayed the same. What is the difference with sprites?

I already said that several posts back. I assumed if Ollj made a post just for that it must be something significant that hadn't already been mentioned.

Making an env_sprite have a pathname with a model file in it crashes my VHE 3.5 Beta.

Can't help you with that one. Maybe you should switch to Quark, it never crashes.

I've been using Quark for several months now and in that time it has crashed once. It crashed because I had left my computer on for 3 days straight and Kernel32.dll crashed. And even then It told me it was crashing and saved my map, with no errors, before it crashed. As far as I'm concerned, it never crashes.
