Forum buttons

<div class="IPBDescription">Take a look...</div>Ok, I tried my hand at some custom buttons, and here's what I came up with for a reply button:

<img src="http://www.thelag.net/cgi-bin/hosting/web_pages/Jacius/images/temp/t_reply.gif" border="0">

<img src="http://www.thelag.net/cgi-bin/hosting/web_pages/Jacius/images/temp/t_reply2.gif" border="0">

(The difference is, the second one has transparent background, in case you didnt notice)

It looks a lot better on black than it does on white (surrounded by white even), so so if you *do* look at them, I suggest you paste them over a big black rectangle.

    And after someone (please take credit whoever said this), said paste Bob on it, I did: <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    These both look awesome, I can't possibly decide right now.
  • BlahmanBlahman Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 85Members, NS1 Playtester
    I'd say go with the green ones. They look a little more clear and user-friendly. It's hard to make out bob on that little tiny button.
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    I go the opposite way. I think the green coloring is really cool, but doesn't fit the color scheme of the forums very well.

    Hey, I even agree Jacius made some good buttons, but if yu put them on an orange/black site, they just dont fit it that well <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

    Well the site doesnt *have* to be orange and black. If you used my buttons, none of the buttons would be orange...

    Anyway, that's what I was thinking when someone said "custom buttons" for the forum -- something oozy and NS-ish

    If you simply must have it be more orange, then I suggest you look at the following:

    <img src="http://www.thelag.net/cgi-bin/hosting/web_pages/Jacius/images/temp/t_reply3.gif" border="0">

    <img src="http://www.thelag.net/cgi-bin/hosting/web_pages/Jacius/images/temp/t_reply4.gif" border="0">

    Note that it's not only more orange, its glowing like a little tiny reply-hive :-D

    Think I need to tone down the orange a bit, looks a little tropical right now <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah, now that Jac's is more orangey, I am even more torn. I guess you both will just need to come up with more buttons, to give us more samples to look at. Great work both of you!

    Hmm... decisions decisions. Nicely done both of you. There's only one way to decide on which buttons to use. Jacius, Comprox, fight to the death.

    ...and to think. That's what he wasted his 1000th post on. For shame MonsE, for shame.

    no wait!
    dont fight to the death!
    it would kill you both, look, heres what we do, you both jump out of an helicopter, from 900 meters above ground...
    and the one that survives, gets to use there avatar.
    /me thinks for himself:" a perfect way to get them both out of the way, and put in my custom buttons! my custom teletubbies button! adn nobody can stop me! NOBODY!"

    whoops, i didnt think/say/write that out loud, did i?

    One of the -really- cool things about Ikonboard is that you can have multiple skins, so one person could use one set of buttons, and another could be using another set. I think it takes writing a CFG file, but.... *tries to bribe MonsE and Flayra with donuts* Please? <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    The answer to that is sooooooooooooo <b>No</b>. I already get only 4-5 hours of sleep a weeknight due to work, forums, PR, and RR.org.
  • executorexecutor Join Date: 2002-02-01 Member: 146Members
    dude, u realy gotta stop callin it rr.org, cause that realy is a website (of some band, or cake-baking-thin i think, check it out for yourself).
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor

    In answer to the buttons, I say that an anonymous poll is in order.  Anonymous submissions and anonymous votes.  We could let the public say which one they like better.  And then Flayra will put in which ever ones he likes better.

    Well, since people have seen what Jacius and I make, wouldnt really be anonymous anymore, would it? <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    I coulda sworn you could have skins for the forum, I think that would be the best way to go for this.
  • MoleculorMoleculor Namer-of-Bob Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 9Members
    Yes, you can, but MonsE ain't getting enough sleep, so he can't. (Shoot, hand me the power to do so, the instruction manual, and let me try my hand at creating an alternate skin. Can't be too hard.)

    i like them both, but i think if comprox breaks up the outlines of his, makes them a bit more organic or something.  ill be sold on his.
    jacius's stuff looks very yummy, but the glowing blurry thing on the text might strain my precious eyeballs after my hours of lurking and reading
  • FlayraFlayra Game Director, Unknown Worlds Entertainment San Francisco Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 3Super Administrators, NS2 Developer, Subnautica Developer
    We CAN have skins, but it's more work to maintain both, so I'd rather just have one unified look.  Comprox, are you done with the buttons and just waiting for some sort of official-sounding something from me?

    Lol, they are about 1/2 done, I put them on hold for a bit while I study for my Cisco final this Thursday (only $100 US to write&#33<!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->. I can have them done by tomorrow evening if you would like though.
