Taking up a chunk load of space.
Ever since i started playing HL i've been noticing these files that pop up day after day, week after week. Multiplying like crazy. At first i didn't really care. I just let em sit on my C drive, didn't want to delete them cuz i didn't know whether they were important files or not.
I took a look at them one day and noticed they were taking up a crap load of space. So im asking whether i need these files on my computer or not.

Theres like 3 rows of these files just lined up in my C drive
One row alone takes up 5 megs.

Ok, see you know those .# extensions? Windows would say thats a "4" File or a "5" file, etc. These aren't important to half-life at all, so nuke them, Unless their from a different program. I do not know of any windows/linux files that use numeric extensions like that. Feel free to destroy them.

Are these files in your HL directory? Your post is unclear on where they exactly are located. Also, you could post a couple of them here for examination if you like...

Those should be files HL creates when it crashes (at least I think that's when they're created). Open one of them with notepad, they should contain lots of random symbols and some HL related text. I've have some of those in my root folder though the filenames are quite a bit longer on my computer (t3vg34nb.2 for example). You can remove them without any problem though s:)

Uhhh, yeah. I haven't had 122 HL crashes in 5 years, and that's with running alpha and beta NS code for the past 2 years... Seems as though you should be less concerned about some dump files and more concerned about why you blow up so much.

/me takes guess that you use Win98...

That may be a fair assumption MonsieurEvil. I used to get files like these in my root folder when I was using Windows 98. Opening them up in a text editor showed them to be Half-Life related in some way. I think the top line contained server ip and names that I'd been on, but I can't really remember now. I thought maybe they were logs that the server somehow left on my machine. I didn't question it and just deleted them when I found them, which didn't cause any harm to my HL in any way I could see.

However, since updating to XP I don't recall a single one. I'd forgotton all about them until now, infact.

and i only crashed frequently becuz of damn 128 megs of ram in my computer.
Now that i'd upgraded i'll be seeing less and less of these so called "logs"

    wow...

I had 2 of them. If HL crashed on me that much I would expect it to have been a beta for morowind or something

Um.. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the admin mod people would not be stupid enough to send the server password to every client that connects.. so if it was there it would most likely mean you already had the correct password for that server.. You really think that admin mod sends the server password to every client?
