Overconfidence In Marines...

Good or a bad thing?
I see the feeling of overconfidence come over many marines quite often. They aren't that great when playing as a marine, but just because they HAPPEN to get the finishing shot on enemies, so they end up having most of the kills on the team, or some other confidence boosting thingamabob that causes them to lose sight of the game. They sit there and whine for guns because they think they own the team. They then proceed to go out and die 5 seconds later, losing a 25 res HMG.

Not only that, they also make lots of annoying comments, saying how the entire team sucks except themselves(and maybe the comm, if s/he keeps giving them weapons), or how they'll say they go out and own lots of skulks, but ends up dying to only one of them. Then comes the accusations of hacking and BS and stuff.

Bah, overconfidence sucks. Unless used properly, it results in a very talkative and annoying+useless teammate that does nothing except die, while the rest of the team runs around and builds lots of stuff, ultimately winning the game.

So.....any thoughts?

P.S. not meant of be offensive to anyone, just posting my thoughts.

Yeah this is a good warning to those who think they are teh uber "elite" because they get some kills. Getting kills isn't always primary on marine team, my friend.

Of course, the inverse is sometimes true... I do hate it when I am doing well, ask for a shotgun (which I love vs. hive1 and add a JP for hive2!) and the comm won't give it to me, even though we clearly have the res. Why? Well, I don't mind if we are saving up for a quick siege or something, but when he just gives hmgs, or just gives equipment to his friends, or would rather build a redundant TF in main (I got this... once... wow) then it's a bit annoying.

Anyways, message to comms: If you're capper is also getting kills, for the love of god throw him a bone or he'll stop capping for you. That's my situation far too often, I'm capping, killing, setting up hive lockdowns, and I can't even get a medpack half the time.

edit: hahaha, you can't put elite in leet speak? It auto got rid of my 1 3 3 7 and put in "elite" hahahah

I've actually found the inverse, powerhungry comms who totally forget about the mission and ruin the game for the team...

i agree with Jokis for some of the discussion, alot of the time the comm will tell you to do something.... you do it.... and obviously... your the only one who does it... then when it goes down cause you couldnt defend yourself against 2 skulks cause you were building the res tower he blaims you and gives you nothing the rest of the game... not even a med-pack.... and i personally am better with shotty's and the LMG so i ussually just die after killing a few skulks with just a 9 res JP. now onto the overconfident players... Yes, yes oh my yes are there some cocky little 9 year old with a voice that sounds like a baby whineing heres a picture , you hear them say..... "omg your such a nub... the only person who doesnt suck on this team is the comm...." its funny when you see the comm is the admin and he bans him Heh heh

Haha.. well.. I have to confess that I have had the luck not to meet such players. We don't need another CS Anarchy in NS... it's supposed to be based on teamwork and fun...

But still.. there is one thing that strikes me : why care about the stats when you still can't see them on the scoreboard *grin* I mean... haha... If you ask me I find it quite good that you CAN'T see your stats as a marine, since they are the team who's supposed to be playing AS a team.. Well... I can just say that I depsise those nutheads out there (no offense) who only look after themselves and whine all the time..

As for the commander abusing his position... well... there isn't much you can do except voting for an eject and pray to god the rest of the team follows suit :/

    I have an idea...

I think the marine scoreboard SHOULD have scores on them, but only visible to the commander! I mean, the comm still needs to know who is proficient at combat, etc. Even in real life the military probably keeps statistics on each soldier on how well he/she does! The comm needs to know so he can better divide his team up into different taskforces. Like the squad that can't shoot as well will be the distraction while the godly FPS peeps can sneak in and kill the hive or whatever.

Didn't think of it in that way I have to confess That was quite a good idea. It would, as you said, give the commander more space for playing around and experimenting with his squads. I just feel sorry for all those newcomers, having to be bait ^^

the problem with that was allready posted..... what about just a person... and he was with 2 other people, now this person sucks but he shoots at the skulk and gets a kill when really all 3 of them were shooting at it, now this happens a couple of times with same result.... then this noob formally from playing CS starts shooting his mouth off..... oh well... it would work in most sitiuations with the comm and scorebord so yeah sure that would work

I don't think commanders should have confidence in their marines until the marines have earned it (and vice versa). Once your 'rines have proved themselves to be good soldiers and assuming you're a comm of tolerable skill, that's when the magic happens. The comm/rine relationship is, in my opinion, the coolest thing about Natural Selection and when that relationship is good it's something unlike just about any other game out there. I think they had a good marines team in mind when they came up with that whole "diamond in the rough" proverb.

I'v got the same opinion Mastodon.
The only big problem is when the commander has TOO MUCH overconfidence. I mean, they might start saying that everyone is a n00b, that his stratagy is flawless, and that the marines are only lossing because everyone else is doing everything wrong. That way, nor the marines will have confidence in the comm, and the comm in the marines.

oh well..... that's what the ejecting comm order exists!!!
