I found this to be quite an entertaining read. What griefers can do in "The Sims Online"

I bet that "Sim Mafia" would be a great game if Maxis wouldn't screw it up with lots of bothersome stats and management that you don't care about. You'd probably even have to handle the purchase of baseball bats to replace broken ones when Antonio Policella's kneecaps turned out to be harder than expect.

I didn't even know that this game had been released yet lol. Interesting read though.

Though the Mathiesons say they dispense justice, their online tactics can be just as rough. The couple say they have ransacked apartments, sent out their “troops” to urinate on others’ lawns and once drove another player from the game.

Looks more like

People are trying to make what is possibly the worlds dullest game more interesting, can you blame them really?

Though on a whole I disagree strongly with "misbehaving" on the internet. People believe because they are faceless they can avoid the consequences....*invents machine to stab people in the face over the internet*

Just wait til someone hacks "The Sims Online" and goes around killing everyone with a lightsab0r or something

That makes games much more interesting, because then there will be friendly hackers who will go around killing the other hackers and leaving other people alone, and it'll be like a super hero thing. That's what happened with PSO for dreamcast.

to be honest, Sims Online is nothing more than a fancy version of HabboHotel. and there were greifers on that, too, and their "clans" were/are called Mafias. And, you don't have to pay to be annoyed on HabbHotel, you get it for free

"THE DRAGONS ARE ATTACKING YOUR TROOPS IN THE DISCOROOM!!!! GO GO!!!!!1"

"I AM NOT A SECRET MEMBER OF ANOTHER GANG. CAN I JOIN YOURS?"

I think I've done a good job, if I ever get into a fight I tell them it's jsut a game, and to calm the hell down.

The article spends most of its time discussing what griefers actually are... oh well. It's not news to anyone who's played.... well, anything online these days.

[rant]
What really *cough* annoys me is this excuse that they're roleplaying BS. The only time that's valid is on a RPing MUD like Achaea, if you are an evil aligned character. It gets a bit out of hand when Blizzard refuse to tone down hostile mode in Diablo II because griefers are just "roleplaying" evil characters. Ha. There's more roleplaying in a word processor than in Diablo II.

Well that's what I did anyway. There were plenty of friendly cheaters. Dupers, people who gave themselves infinite MP to use heal spells over and over again, and there were also a great many non-aggresive PKers who only killed when provoked. I was one such cheater, and people who did that kinda stuff got a lot of respect.
