Apology.

Since the July 4th thread was locked, I just want to apologise for my post in there - I meant the post in a lightly humorous way, but I didn't make my intentions clear.

Hope you all had a great day!

The post was probably just locked because of the general negativity of it all at the end there. Both the Brits vs. USA comments and my unappropriate comment at the end could have definitely led to some pretty nasty fights. The lock was probably just to avoid potential fists-thrown. Trust me, MonsE's post wasn't there when I started writing that, or I wouldn't have been so quick to add to the tension. I'd delete it if it wasn't locked.

Awesome of you to apologize though. All's good as an In-N-Out burger, I'm sure!

(And considering MonsE's military background, I definitely understand his defensiveness.)

I actually sort it was funny. Not tasteless at all.

All is forgiven. Merks is a standup guy - it's why we've been chatting for the past 4 hours!

I guess it all went down the drain from my post on. Please accept my apologies, too.

By the way, the struggle for independence is the one American historical event I can 100% agree with. Nobody wants to take your 4th of July, it's only that I can't resist a chance of bashing the US. Or Germany. Or France. Or England.

Oh me. What a day. Swimming in my sister's pool... Running around the house playing games with my nieces... Chewing on some freshly grilled animal flesh... Chugging down some golden goodness... Picking things out of the fruit salad... Sharing a smoke with my brothers... And finally the best damn fireworks show my city has ever seen.

For some strange reason, as I watched the fireworks the only thing that kept running through my head was our anthem. And then there's that prickly feeling you get in the pit of your stomach. Nothing can take that feeling away.

Not some douche-bag going on a shooting spree in LAX.
Not the media telling me that everyone in a plane, in a fuel tanker, near an energy plant, on a bus, walking down your street.... is out to get you.
Not somebody on a web forum.

It's rather curious why others wouldn't want to have that feeling too. Way down in the pit of your stomach.

I apologise if I did anything to encourage this, and I hope you all had a great day despite certain events.

In short, because we're cynical mean little jerks who payed for this feeling in their stomach with some of the most brutal wars the world has ever seen.
