I never used the lerk in 1.4 and in 2.0 since they made it less useful since they took out bite . im prolly not gonna use the lerk in 2.0 but i guess i'll just have to wait till' 2.0 comes out.

Any vets who can give their oppinion on this simple question: Do you use lerks in the current 2.0 build?

People whinging about the new Lerk attacks, who haven't played using it: stop whining. Play with it for two weeks, then come back and whinge. Personally, I'm really looking forward to spores at hive 1

I have a hard time accepting that a tiny lerk can make a "bellowing roar that triggers a battle fevor.." IMO, an onos primal scream seems more realistic. the roaring would be done by an extremely large alien wouldn't it?

Aye. Gorge is now the primary anti-building class it seems. Doesn't initially make sense I think, but I'm willing to wait and see for myself.
I too am looking forward to using spores a bit more. I always saw the lerk as a harasser: The objective of the lerk is to annoy the marines senseless and present them with an inviting yet fast and hard-to-kill 33-res target, thus diverting their attention from important matters to taking down an oversize machinegun-bat. Most people however seem to see the lerk as a winged skulk with a secondary long-range capability.
The new lerk will be the "rager" alien I believe, spiking and sporing the marines until they're furious and frustrated. Seems like I'm right.

I partially agree. The current primal scream seems unfit for the lerk. A new, more screeching and high-pitched sound would work though I think. Think "pterodactyl" from whatever dinosaur movie you prefer. I trust there'll be one.

This mouse actually 'roars' (Or at least makes a shriek) that momentarily stuns scorpions and tarantulas before it attacks them. The thing is barely 6" long and can do that Just because it doesn't look big or particulary viscious doesn't mean it can't make a hell of a sound (equivalently!).

Assuming the lerk is based off birds for at least some of its physiology, it could presumably produce a sound of around maybe 113-120 decibels at its peak (Which many parrots routinely do). That is roughly louder than a metallica concert right outside of your ear. To compare, you can put that against a motorcycle at 100 decibels or a subway train coming to a halt at a station, which is about 90 decibels.

Compared to other animals, a Bull can get up into the 80 decibel region, pigs can go up to 115-120 decibels, Lions manage 100 decibels and the winner is the blue whale with a whistle of 188 decibels. The volume of a noise (and sometimes what it sounds like) isn't really what the animal looks like, or how big it is. A pig isn't bigger than a Lion, yet is far louder, and some tropical birds make terrifying noises that are in the 130 decibel region.

And yes, I am a living collection of pointless animal facts.

getting to complex here i think with that arguement...

the thing is primal scream, i assume, is ment to more represent, in 1.x the onos, being a huge creature, inspiring other kharaa to fight better.

now look at the lerk. by the sound of it, and look of it, it's hardly an inspiring creature.

but yeah, do spores/spikes do the same amount of damage as 1.x and the same rate of fire?

The Spores/spike question I can't actually answer. I haven't ever been able to lerk. 1.0-2.0, I've never been able to do it. I do see several good lerks on the servers though, so I know it can be done. They've switched roles to more of a supporting class, rather than a main attacker. The spores, the removal of bite, giving it primal scream, all are ment to reflect this. It's ment to trail the attacking aliens/keep the marines out of an area for a while with spores. It fits this role well. Spores do very well denying an area to the marines (you can still run through them, but you'll take signifigant damage). TBH also, the primal scream thing, it fits. You may not believe me, but when one of those things screams at you, you run. (mostly because if its screaming it's not alone. )

In the future, please resist. I'd like to try out a lerk that isn't a flying skulk. It's a support class, deal.

Whether you agree with them or not, spores in 1.04 are a talentless weapon.

I'm not going to go into a thread on this one, so please don't bother telling me how wrong I am. I know some don't agree, I know some do, and I know I can't change the features in 2.0.

But I still personally think Spores are talentless as they are, and I doubt they're going to become much better.

Oh CMON! They shoulda made it Bite, Umbra, Spore, Primal Scream...but NO...u people had to "vote" for it....

I never really used lerk bite much when I was just learning ns, but now, the bite/umbra combo makes lerk one of the most fun classes to play with two hives.

I'm going to miss lerk bite.

By the way, why this artificail limit on the number of attacks for each class. On my keyboard, I have numbers 0-9 on the very top. Please, let me use them. There should be no questions of which attack to axe, just add it on to the existing 4.

    Who's with me.

Engine limitation... remember , HL only supports 32 different weapons , which means there are only 4 remaining for future NS versions...

Besides , it's 1 attack per hive + 1 starting attack (2 at one hive , 3 at 2 hives , 4 at 3 hives) and there is no reason to make it more complicated.
