    Excelent job. I made an 80-poly turret for myself a few months ago, but needless to say it was fugly. This one looks pretty neat still. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Well, it doesn't exactly look gorgeous, however i can have 2 of these turrets onscreen, and still have less polys than 1 standard turret. I'm gonna start work on the other buildings now, TF and Siege are next on the list.

    as much as i admire how u think of ppl wit crap computers, i have to say sum1 make a hi-poly turret, without a tripod so it floats, and add a jet on the bottom

    That could probably be even lower poly than this, just cut the tripod off and add a sprite to the bottom, but then it looks unrealistic. In reality, a sentry held up by jets would go flying across the room from recoil when it fired. :/

    a jet? why would they waiste gas or whatever on that...wouldn't make sense

    a high poly pack would be the best <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> cause everyone allways helps out the older comps but never htinks of us newer ones D:

    So, the fact that you high end system users already can hit more accurately, build faster, and have almost unlimited JP fuel isn't enough? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think you should take away some polies from the bullet chain and maybe add another side to the barrels.
  • Owen1Owen1 Join Date: 2003-04-13 Member: 15457Members
    1.) the fuel would come from the same place as med paks and ammo.
    2.) the recoil can be added in to the anims
    3.)its just a suggestion

    It's not so much that people with "elite" comps aren't liked as much as HL itself has a limit, where it sputters and dies...
    You might not want a high-poly pack.

    I just had a thought about the whole hovering sentry, imagine a marine at the end of tram tunnel in bast, sitting in a turret farm, and just itching to rambo off to the other end of tram tunnel. He can just sit on a turret, and when a skulk attacks, the recoil of the turret would send it, and the rambo ontop of it, catapulting to the far end at near PG speed!

    /me giggles

    Oh, can anyone say "TURRENTS THAT HOVAR WITHOUT FLAPPING!!!!1!11oneone" ?

    Because it's NS and nothing makes sense?

    remove the belt. the belt isn't needed. you still get the idea of a turret w/o the belt.

    F***IN NICE S*** MAN! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Update, just complete my low poly Siege Cannon. Now, before anyone says <b>anything</b>, i <i>know</i> the barrel is a rectangular shape, that is exactly how intended it to be. Why should a gun that can fire through a solid wall, have to have a round barrel? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Anyway, without further a-do, in the red corner, weighing in at 184 polys, the Siege!

    I wonder why people who wanted low poly models tried to do it this way.

    Most people want low poly, but still "pretty". However, some people will go to more extreme measures than others, my models are pretty much as basic as you can get before going to cuboids and, other primitives, making up the entire shape.

    Also, due to popular request, i've made another sentry without the ammo chain, along with a few more minor, poly reducing, changes. Weighs in at a mere 158 polys. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    [edit]Does anyone know any good image hosts, that don't mind remote linking? I've had my AngelFire account shut down due to excess bandwidth usage, and i think this Geocities account is going the same way. :/[/edit]

    Hehe i was just kidding. I really respect you people, i see almost no differance between the normal and the low poly models.

    No difference? lol, i thnk you been looking at the wrong models. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Here's the original sentry, for those who seem confused. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Your sentry are super reduced so you can tell the diffrence but still the lowpoly isnt bad looking

    but the skulk with 47% less polys (or how much it was) I could only see a diffrence when I looked real cloesly in-game I woulden be able to wich was wich. Amazing job but unneccesery for my part cuz I can run ns with many times the polys of the original models without problems
