Regeneration works the best on Onos, I have to admit. Carapace work's better on Skulk's and Lerk's since they have low hp. Carapace can also work good on Fade at second hive because you can take more damage and metabolise somewhere safe.

Also it can let you keep the pressure on a marine base, just simply hide a little distance away and then rush back in, or, you can hide in a hard to reach place, where the odd shot will hit you, which will be healed, distracting one or two marines for a few minutes, maybe even help an ambush!

Skulk upgrades are worthless especially xenocide in my opinion and I'd definately go with regen anyday over any of the other upgrades. You definatley need with the servers I've been on lately. Up to six rows of turrets with a hallway of minesin front of them. It takes forever with onos to even get to the turrets even with regen. Geez, and don't even bother with any other forms step on one mine and with regen your goner anyways.
I generally don't get upgrades as a skulk. As a gorge, I almost always get regen, unless I know I will always be around dc's. For anything else I get regen. As a 3.0 lerk it might be worthwhile to get cara if you plan on biting marines a lot, but if you are going to spore a lot (or if you are spiking in 2.x) then regen will be more helpful since you should easily be able to retreat and heal.
I usaly only get cara with skulks and gorges, and ocasionly fades, but in not a good fade, even with acid rocket, they dont fit me or somdin.
Cara on skulk is great because it lets you live longer, i got the "retarded monkeyball" dodge skills too (which is why i actualy prefer celerity, which increase my skulk lifespan more than cara and regen together)
Regen i usaly use when defending stationary positions (so the gorge can come and secure or whatever) in ambush mode.
gorges, well though i guess regen works well, they get a lot of armor with cara, and they got a goodly bit o hp as it is now.
lerks (my fav class) i always go regen, cus they fly fast and do pot shots out of vents, usaly if they get hit its 1 or 2 stray bullets. also with lvl3 regen you can take out single turits (ala spike, and u use angles so only one turit can see u) without geting very hurt.
fade, there big debates on wether to use regen or cara/redemt, and jus use matabilize to heal urself.
Onos- unless you run into a hord of hmg/shoty with good aim (and the knowledge of the onos's true hitbox) regen will always increase ur lifespan more than cara.
as for mines, why dont u go gorge and shoot em?, i think bile bomb does it, spit used to but i dont think it does anymore.
and skulk upgrades roxor, learn your skulk, love your skulk, get movement upgrades for skulk always, (i suged adren if u xenoing, silence for ambushers, and celerity for everything else)
