How big is the file going to be?
Just out of curiousity, just how big is NS 2.0 going to be? 25 megs? 50 megs? 100 megs? Or is the final size uncertain yet?

I'd guess 110 MBs.
• SirusSirus Join Date: 2002-11-13 Member: 8466Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
Yes, 110 exactly as of previous builds, expect a little bit more.

previous estimates where in the 130meg range.

But you can notice the Veteran and Playtester group titles, trust us. We are looking right at the information first hand. It will probably be 110 megs, or very close to that. Possibly 120, with the probable addition of more models, if at all.

Thanks for the prompt response, guys. (:

I hope there are plenty of non-Fileplanet mirrors planned/offered, because this is a job for resumable downloads. (;

so we all have to download the whole thing or will there be an upgrade patch?
• JimladJimlad Join Date: 2003-07-02 Member: 17867Members
Boycott release on Fileplanet says I! I mean, these days I *never* use fileplanet unless I absolutely have to, and even then I usually end up giving up since the queues are five hours long. And we all know how much Fileplanet sucks these days. If you pay them, you only encourage them to keep charging and neglecting the public servers. Knowing them, they'd probably only allow subscribers to download on the first day of release or something. Just say no. There are plenty of alternatives out there, who needs FP?

I doubt an upgrade patch.. Pretty much the entire game has changed.. I'll most likely be a completely new install and that'll be all that is available.

Fileplanet still sucks - (you have to pay for it man)
Anyways while on the subject of the ns download, why do no sites zip the exe file or even rar it to make it easier to download for 56k'ers. I'm on adsl but i used to be on a 56k just yesterday so i know what its like .

Are the devs still looking into releasing NS 2.0 via bit torrent? Cause it would be really cool if they did. 50+ kb/s downloads! It's freaking cool I tell ya!

Heh - I've still not worked out how to get bittorrent to work.

--

Hopefully I'll just be able to grab it from my usual source (the GSP I play on), and leave getright to do its thing overnight. Either way I know I'm going to be late to the 2.0 party, thanks to my modem

Erm, people who have played the game have already given a decent estimate (~110 megs). In all honesty, this thread might as well be closed now, since it's fulfilled its purpose.

Fileplanet doesn't suck: 15 minutes in line, 1mb/s transfer rate... well, for me anyway, since I will still be at this drexel summer thing i'm doing leeching off of college bandwidth.

I never seem to have that much problems with fileplanet either, if I choose the right time the line is 10 minutes max, and I get nearly my full 768kbit/sec downstream. No issues.

When NS 2.0 gets released it'll be the hotest thing on fileplanet and you'll see lines rivaling an HL Update.
*edit* is it hottest or hotest... i think its hottest...
• DubbilexDubbilex Chump Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9799Members
That would be 'hottest'

But more importantly...

In its current state NS 2.0 is 111mb. This is taking the full install with all patches extracting adding in maps that I needed to dl and then zipping it all up. This excludes the server dll and so far some of the maps are still changing but I don't expect the file size to change much.

As a side note, I'd like to say that I sure won't be puting up a mirror. We tried to do that at Spider Gaming for the 1.0 release, and the insane amount of net traffic pwned our entire network for a week. So, if anyone else has any misconceptions about hosting, think long and hard before you try anything.

Ohhhh ****... I have 1.5mbps downstream and my downloads never get over 150kbps, FilePlanet membership or not. Maybe I'm two far away from the node (I have DSL) or whatever. Anyways, since your connection seems to be going much faster can you point me to a website where I can fix this slowness (which doesn't seem to occur in games...)?
